has anybody in so cal done the final gear mod? i would like to talk to you about it. would you do it over again? how has the driving experience changed? anybody have remorse about doing it? i am mechanically-challenged, so i am going to pay a tranny specialist to do it for me.. how much should i expect to spend?

any bits of knowledge you can impart will be appreciated.

well im not in So cal but I have done this modification,
Overall I was pleased, car seems to take off better, I was expecting more but still am pleased. my speedo is off 5 mph now so if Im going 40 it says 45, which is okay it keeps me from speeding, now I automatically just take 5mph off my speed so its not even a big deal at all.

I did the mod myself and it took a little over 1.5 hours, the hardest part is getting the 2 bolts off that hold the gears on, that part took probably 1 hour to do, the rest is easy, but if your going to have someone do it expect about 1-1.5 hours of time at what ever they charge, around here its like 50-80 bucks an hour.

If you do this mod, a higher stall torque converter and the shift kit, you will finally be happy with the performance of our slushboxes.

thanks for your reply. without a higher stall torque converter and the shift kit, will it be worth it?

i have to tell you that i do not race. my car is a daily driver. would it be worth it then? how much did you spend for parts? is it true that it is only 86 bucks for the gear(s)?

yes its still worth it, but get a tranny cooler to keep the baby cool. I'm picking up a tranny cooler tomorrow, and order a shift kit and and gears next week) then week after that a torque converter...then savings for the turbo kick in.
