#33319, "Why is my datalogger not working?"

Well I spent half the day yesterday trying to get the POS to work. It came w/ a 9 pin serial connector but I have the 25 pin port on my laptop. I tried plugging into that but it didn't work. So I bought a serial to USB adapter (freaking $70) and that won't work either. It has the busy message then it terminates and says that either the ignition isn't on or the cable isn't plugged in. So my OBD-2 port connector has like 5 pins in it and it just slips on. It doesn't snap or anything and is real easy to pull off. Is this normal? Is there any special tricks I should try?

If you look in settings -> gateway in the datalogger software, make sure everything is unchecked except ISO, and ISO is set to 75 10 10. if it still won't connect, try 150 10 10. I have the best luck on one of those two settings. If it STILL won't connect, try a db25 to db9 adapter, rather than serial to USB. The software is hard coded to look at a COM port.

Alright I'll give that a try when I get home. Thanks!

BTW how would I have known that if I didn't have you to ask? Shouldn't it have instructions that tell you that?

i have a question, how do you show the o2 sensor voltage relative to rpm. Once i make a run i want to see what my values are for each few hundred rpms. so then i can adjust accordingly

under DATA, send both RPM and O2 sensor 1 bank 0. on the GRAPH tab, graph both those parameters. Go.

OK I tried those settings and a bunch more and no luck. The manual says the ISO won't work w/ USB. I don't have a serial port on my laptop. I tried connecting it to the parallel port and it won't work there either. Am I SOL because I don't have a serial port?

You have to get the adapter box that plugs into your USB port(s).

your laptop has a com/serial port, or it's a peice and should be thrown out. you probably just haven't found it or something (hidden under a door or what not). I have NEVER seen a laptop that didn't have a basic serial port.

Is the db25 port a serial port? I thought it was parallel but I could be wrong. Even if that is the case I tried a db9 to db25 adapter and that doesn't work either. I tried that first because it was $5 compared to $70 for the USB converter. I just bought this thing last summer. It's not THAT old.

Toshiba is CRAP in my book. especially if they've dropped as important a component as that. which unfortunatly is going to happen more since microsoft and intel are preparing to completely get rid of the old serial and parrallel ports all together.
