#32890, "Really strange sound"

95 Talon ESi, with 153K miles on it. There is a strange sound (sounds like a big leaf in the intake before the filter), but there is no leaf, only happens around 2.5k - 3k rpm. Any suggestions?

Could someone at least offer some advice or input? It may seem funny until you hear the car doing it, it's pretty embarrassing.

take the intake cone off mang and rev it in your driveway, make sure nuffin's gonna fly in, see if it does it, also look inside your cone and make sure none of it's ripped off, you might also look at your throttle body plate

geez all those holes? last time i checked you could get an intake for about $15 + shipping on Ebay, try that mutha out.

as far as your noise, you'd have to describe it better. is it plastic sounding, or metallic, etc?

like a big leaf from a tree, kind of a buzzing sound, do you know what I mean? usually happens at certain rpms, but now it happens on a broader range

sounds like a spun bearing man, thats how mine started out. In the upper RPMs my car sounded like a piece of wood was stuck in a fan and making the tick tick tick noise.

Being that you have a 95 and im guessing a manual, all of the 95 manual dsm's have the cold air injection into the cat. Its the metal tube that runs next to the downpipe and connects to the stock air box. Im sure your rubber hose has come undone, this causes the sound you are describing.

well you might want to check what he^^^ said out first. When I say spun bearing, I mean a spun rod bearing. I had it and the dealership replaced my bottom end because of it

hopefully its not a spun rod bearing, it dosen't sound like it is. Check the cold air injection and then inspect all around the throttle body to see if anything is out of the ordinary, if the sounds moves to a knock that increases in tempo with rpm's ur fucked and don't take it to the dealer to get it fixed.

no, i have the knocking (with the rpm), but i've had that for a while (long time) and that only happens for about 5 minutes then goes away, the hose you are talking about might be the secondary pulsed injection, (which had the recall) and I have never seen a hose there, so it must have been taken off. the noise just recently started happening, and I don't think a dealer will take my car, WAAYY out of warranty (it was a hand-me-down from my dad). I'm hoping that it's not a rod bearing, I don't have much money. emoji
