I've been having lots of problems w/ my new engine. Missing, low vac, hard to start. And I think the timing may be off. How do I tell if it's off and how do you get it back where it's supposed to be?

Line up your cam gear timing marks so that they are facing eachother, like this - - Then the mark on the crank timing pulley should be lined up with the arrow on the block. If you had the head milled, then the marks on the cams may not perfectly line up, but they should be VERY close..maybe not in a perfect straight line, but slightly crooked...

How much do you think it'd cost to have it put in time? A T-belt isn't something I want to mess w/. But I'll try to check it myself to see if it's off. Can I do it w/ the crank pulley still on?

Line up the triangle mark on the crank sprocket (which will be hard, if not impossible to see with the crank pulley on) with the triangle mark on the oil pump. Then check for marks on the cam gears. They should be aligned. If not, redo it, or get adjustible gears so it can be tuned if they are off slightly
Just think of it as half of an Eclipse with more power

You will have to pull the crank pulley, motor mount, motor mount plate, and front timing belt cover(if its on there). To adjust the timing, you will need to line up all 3 marks like mentioned above, then loosen the tensioner body, line up the belt and marks all at once, put 20 ft lbs of torque on the tensioner pulley bolt, then tighten the tensioner body while keeping torque on the tensioner bolt. If you can do a timing belt yourself, then your all set, its really not that hard...just time consuming..
