i talked to a friend at mitsu and he said, if i go through him to do any machine work needed to the block and installing the bottom end kit would cost about $1000, this is complete.. but he said if i where to do the head also it would cost for all machine shop work, and installing the parts about $1500.. is he charging me alot? i was under the assumption it would cost around $500 for any machine work and install of the bottom end, and top end would be around another $500 total... input on anything would be nice...

I got quoted to rebuild my engine/w machining at around 3200 more or less. This was with buying the rebuild kit from howell and taking it to a local mechanic to do the install. Can I ask what you are thinking of machining? with that I mean the bearings, cylinder walls, crank, and shaving the head. I was going to post a thread with machining that you could get away with out doing? But now I'm just looking at buying the whole new block from howell that has already been built and having that installed. somebody on here had some problems doing the install and were supposed to email me on what happened but I never got that email, so I still need to find out what I might need to look out for

little 'minor' problems from what everyone says.. but i plan to go with je piston, and RINGS, not total seal.. plus i plan on going with crower rods... one day 'i hope' to crank it up and go balls out on this car if i still have it so i rather do it right the 1st time... so far my price list for parts is about $3000 for top and bottom if i do both that is... so what machine shop gave you the price? are they any good? since im from so cal thats why im asking cool good luck

A friend and I rebuilt a 318, we did the rebuilding our selves. But a machine shop did the machining. The work done was hot tanking, cleaned, honed and bored, recondition rods and crank, they put the pistons on the rods, and a complete rebuild kit (stock pistons). The price was under 600 bucks. But another friend of ours knew the shop owner.

yeah the shop is out of Downey, they are pretty good at prices but I am still want to save some more time and money. Can I ask why you are going with seals instead of the total ring seals, my assumption was that was the best, anyways do you know what the "minor" problems were with the block, like I said, they were supposed to email, but afx swears that they are the only ones in the US that can bore out the cylinders with a deckplate making everything run smoother for the pistons and allowing for more perfect seal. anyways, my problem would be downtime, and I hope the block assembly from howell will help out a little.

the shop in downey, is it like a mom and dad shop deal? what kinds of engines etc do they build there? do you have the #? i might give them a call.. well i know howell knows there stuff, but any place can build you a motor just depends on price and the kind of work they do... if howell was near me and shippin was not a drag i might get it done by them. i plan to go with je rings and crower rods i hope.. cool Michael 99gs HRC Stage 2 Stage 3 process begins anyone got a 420a block thats not spun etc? http://www.dreamwater.net/purplebeast
