#31317, "pos belt tensioner snapped"

just venting a little on how crappy some things are in our car emoji j/k, but these belt problems never end. i fixed the squeaking a couple months ago after putting up w/ it for a year(pully wasn't on all the way) and in the process chewed up the ps belt, so i went to changed it today and the screw that moveds the tensioner back and forth snapped in half, and is frozen inside the tensioner. so i'm gonna have ta pay an arm and a leg at satan for a whole tensioner. emoji just venting hehe.

Did you loosen the 14MM lock bolt? That is usually the culprit when the reverse threaded 12MM bolt that moves the tensioner fails and breaks. I haven't had that bolt in place for more then a year. I tension with a crowbar and the power steering bracket. Ah well, I recommend getting a tensioner. Just remember the lock bolt next time.

yeah i loosened the lock bolt. it just seems like the screw itself is a bit bent and got stuck once it got to a certain point.

ya, so leave the tensioner where it is, and loosen the mounting bolts on the p/s assembly, wedge a big wrench between the p/s unit and your exhaust mani, and push/pull (usin the wrench to tighten) and then tighten up the p/s mounting bolts...

a diff way to tighten your ps/ac belt...

good luck

hey thanks a lot sean, yeah that's what i did, i locked the tensioner in as far as it would go, and used a crow bar between the ps pump and bracket to tighten it. it seems fine now, but the deflection is a little more than i would like. anyway, no noise. BTW - i went to a local chrysler dealer to see if i could get the bolt, and they woldn't give me just the tensioner bolt, they wanted me to buy the whole tensioner assembly for $130 emoji . bastards, i argued w/ the guy for a long time and got kinda pissed. i used to think that chrysler dealerships were a bit easier to deal w/ but they're all the same.

It isn't the dealership's fault, they can only sell what is available for parts. If there is no part number for the bolt only, then they can't sell the bolt only. Ah well, such is life. I would like to find a replacement for it, myself, as that same bolt is busted on my car.
