#31165, "Another what to do next question???"

Well with my current mods I have almost run out of bolt on performace mods. My goal is to have a fast all motor car. I am waiting until I hit 60k miles to put in some performance cams and adjustable cam gears. Is there anything else I can do short of internals to increase HP/torque. I am addicted to this stuff... and I need a fix... emoji

I don't want to get it any louder exhaust wise either. I am happy with the way it sounds currently.

I am doing my suspension next but then what??

Chad

how about bigger xhaust piping, maybe a hi-flo cat or test pipe? ... SAFC; fuel management unit; maybe an ignition it??? just for thoughts. good luck on your all motor beast. cya.

Yeah, what about your electricals...plugs, wires, etc. And I'm not sure how the AEM CAI sits in the engine bay, but have you thought about turning your driver side vent in the bumper into a ram air? It can be done with piping and filter inside there and then just sealing it off. There's a thread on here about it somewhere

Yeah I just didn't list my electricals as mods... I have Accel plug wires and the recommended NGK plugs. I will have to check into the ram air thing cuz thats right where the AEM filter is. I am planning on getting the Corbin Air fuel guage when Ryan starts pumping them out. I suppose I could go with a controller and just try and tune what I have.

Would a high flow cat show gains or would I lose low end torque? Also does it make the car sound different?

Any other ideas....

Thanks guys,

Chad

Search it...most of the threads I've read on it say for NT's you'll lose more low end than you'll gain high end and it's not worth it...besides...fiberglass and concentration on that ram-air concept is more of a challenge than a few bolts and a test pipe emoji

get a S-AFC, cam gears, and even some cams.. those three things with some tuning should produce some good number increases..

I am gettin there....I haven't been to the track yet but I would say I am just a hair faster than my wifes 99 Maxima AT if that helps at all.

All I know is it is alot more fun to drive now...

Well, I'm going to be in OP and I think I'll be making a test pipe. If you want one, or maybe the hi-flow cat, I'll hook you up. The next go around with plugs, you might buy one range hotter. Really all of the mods that have been suggested will not give more than a horse or two on an actual dyno (not the butt one). With the ram air in concern- you stand more a chance for ram snow and rain too! The filter can only take in so much air. Ram air is much more effective w/o a filter, I wouldn't reccommend it and I know Chad loves the car too much to do it. A neon guy did run a ram air set-up w/o filter and dropped a few tenths off the 1/4 but he only had the set-up for the track.

Shit is all apart. Typical...

Yeah I did put in the ones that are one range hotter. I meant recommended by 2GNT. I have heard that unless I am turbo that a test pipe/high flow cat will hurt more than it will help due to the lost back pressure. I think I might setup a RAM air just for the track like you mentioned since I am running out of other sh%t to do on the car. I have yet to get to the track but I am afraid that once I go I will get hooked. Hey I am buying those illuminas that were recently posted so maybe we could have that lowering party after all some time.

I am going to start svaing for the cam shafts/gears now because that looks like its going to be quite a chunk of change. Also is the S-AFC hard to hook up/configure? I was reading about it a bit and they recommend having a pro install and set it. I know very little about air/fuel ratios. Can I get all the info I am going to need form the internet somewhere?

I got a S-AFC that I "MIGHT" sell. Depends if I can afford a S-FMU in the near future. You could hook it up but I haven't found anybody around me to help me tune it. The test pipe or hiflow cat will not increase or decrease back pressure it just lowers the velocity of air. Explanation: at lower rpms you will suffer a loss of torque, but build higher HP at higher rpm's. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Usually you lose something to gain something else. If you want the cat, I'll weld some flanges to it and you can fool with it. That IMO would be better than the test pipe and your stock cat. I'll have to use my sister's GS as a test bunny to ensure you a good fit (so it will be a little while). Plus the hangers have to be redone. The test pipe won't need hangers and will be better for the track but will probably give you a o2 CEL. BTW how did the fiberglass box work out?

Shit is all apart. Typical...

Yeah lemme know on the S-AFC. I will be in the market for one in a couple weeks. As far as the CAT don't worry about it yet I am going to play with some interior stuff for a while anyhow and that will keep me busy. Yeah the box turned out pretty good. Check out the Audio Q&A under the todays project complete heading.....Thanks all for the suggestions/info.

The only "holes" that I see in bolt on mod list are bigger exhaust piping, suspension mods, and motor mount inserts. Other than that it will be time to start digging into the engine for power. The cams and higher compression pistons can give you massive gains. Like 20+ horses. I know that on Howells 420A they used the 12.5:1 pistons with the #18 cam grind and put 197 hp to the ground. That is GST territory. So you know that could put you in the 14's with some really good driving and some weight loss. However with those cams you will probably not pass emissions. But then again........that I'm not really sure about.

Yeah I have the suspension on its way and I am planning on doing the motor mount inserts. So I suppose its on to internals after that....

Wow I wonder what a turbo would do after having such an all motor beast....

Thanks

well....there would be many things you would have to ditch if you went turbo. If you went with higher compression, as do most that want to stay NA, you would either have to lower the compression, as do most turbo users, or super tune that mofo and hope you get it right. Header would have to go, exhaust *should* get redone to alow more room for the turbo to breathe out of. I am not positive about alot of the internal engine stuff either. You may have to change cam grinds n whatnot. Also, the intake you have would have to go, but you could then rig up a ram air for a turbo setup. That would yield good gains, imo.
