ok so i'm still tryin' to solve my hesitation backfire problem, and i just took of the intake to make sure the tb and intake were clean, which they were. my whole intake up to the butterfly on the tb was extremely clean, but the other side of the butterfly and everything past that point is completely covered in oil and gunk. is this normal or could this be my problem? i was gonna spray some carb cleaner in there to clean it cuz taking the whole intake mani off is kinda outa the question right now. it's definately comming from the pcv vent but the pcv valve seems to be working(tested it the way they say to in the chiltons) so why would that be venting oil? it seems like it might be the way it's supposed to work so i'm kinda hesitant to spray cleaner in there cuz all that gunk might mess up some other stuff if it goes through the system. also, how would i stop the valve from spittin' oil in there? while disconnected the car runs like crap and the idle is horrible, so it's not like i can connect it to a catch can. i guess my basic question is: is oil all over the intake mani normal? and if it's not can i just spray in carb cleaner to fix it? and how do i stop it from happening again? oops that's 3 questions tia

ok well i just bought some tb and intake cleaner and sprayed 1/2 can in there and took it around the block. it seems a little better but it still hesitates when i push down on the throttle at lower rpms. it seems to stutter when it's under a load. this is really startin' to piss me off . i can't use my car and i need it now for school. i think the cleaner helped a bit, but does anyone have any other ideas? it seems to me like i can eliminate the fuel system, b/c the hesitation and/or intake backfire come from being either too rich or having a bad spark, but either way the problem doesn't seem to be fuel getting to the injectors. i did the key dance even though there isn't a cel and got the normal 12-55, so i don't see how it could be a bad sensor, b/c the cel would be on. the only other thing i can think of is the wires, which i just ordered, but b/c of how it only stutters/backfires under load i dont see how it could be the wires or any part of the ignition for that matter, except the plugs which i changed at the start of all this. if it was the wires or coil i would think that the upper rpms would be screwed up to, even more so than the lower range. so i'm kinda stumped. any suggestions/advice would be appreciated. tia

Check your ignition coil. I had the exact same problem with mine. Swap yours with a friend or something. The coil works fine until the ECU sends a large signal to it making it work hard. It took me 3 weeks to figure this out. I had a feeling it was the problem the whole time but I didn't have another one to test without buying a new one and I didn't know if the store would let me return it since it is an electrical item. If you've changed your plugs and wires then that's more than likely the problem. I didn't have any CEL's either until the guy I took it to dogged the crap out of it at low rpm and caused multiple misfire one to pop up. I learned the hard way($80) that it was the coil just like I had figured from the beginning and I still had to go buy another coil.

thanks for the help. the wires are in the mail, so i guess if those don't clear it up, i'll replace the coil. i'm also gonna block off the egr if those don't work after talking to dino. i just don't want the cel
