I used throttle body cleaner, but I assume they are the samething. Yeah I did it with the car on, then had someone rev it so I could clean both sides of the butterfly. If you take it off you can get it much cleaner, but still, you can get lots of the gunk off by leaving it on. Just follow the instructions on the can.

Mine was dirty enough that I could actaully tell the difference after I cleaned it. Well worth it to get that dirt off, that really shouldn't be there!
