#31046, "fuel filter replacement"

is the fuel filter on a 97 rs in the back or in the engine compartment. i think part of my hesitation/backfire problem might be a clogged fuel filter. does anyone have any instructions on how to change it? if you do they would be much appreciated and any other advice. thanks

um..its on he firewall on the rivers side you have to disconect the fuel pump from under the backseat, to relive the fuel presure if you have a chilton manual it tell u how to do it there,i would tell u but i aint got much time today..also before everyone starts to rat on you and throw tomates onyou cause u didnt look first..

if it does not work open the www.2gnt.com website and go to the MODS section once there look for the maintanace part and it should be the first one its hosted by hades omega..
good luck and remember to relieve the fuel pressure before u do anything else.....unplug the fuel pump wires and turn on the engine till it dies..
good luck

thanks a lot, yeah i know that it's in the archives somewhere, but the search wasn't working for me for some reason. anyway, i think it might be different for the 97's that's why i wasn't sure. i have the instructions from the chiltons, but they're not too detailed about the differences and placement for the different years. also, instead of relieving the pressure by disconnecting the fuel pump, can't you relieve it from the test port on the fuel rail?

On your car it is in the back. To take it off all you need is a 14mm and 19mm wrench. After you take the fuel lines off there is 1 or 2 bolts holding the filter assembly on (don't know what size) And yes you can relive the pressure by using the rail as long as the shrader valve is still in there.

i haven't gotten one yet, but i don't think i'm going to b/c i think i've ruled out the fuel sys as part of my problems. i was going to get one from mobile(i assumed they made fuel filters, but maybe they don't) i didn't look into buying it very much. i was going to just take mine out and inspect it first.
