#30980, "Car stays in open loop, even during cruising/partial throttle"

Just started yesterday, the car will stay in open loop operation (o2 sensor voltage does NOT cycle: stays constant just like it does @ WOT) even during partial throttle or cruising conditions.

the back bumper is BLACK b/c its just dumping fuel emoji .

doesnt do it 100% of the time, but goes back and forth b/t running closed loop and open loop.

at WOT, car still goes open loop like it should

ideas?

it's a freakin cat5 w/ a very easily made obd2 connector w/ a cat5 to db9f serial port on the other end. i've already mapped out the obd2 connector and am working on the other 1/2. but either way i would still need a crack for the software. no go there, i paid for it and i'm not letting mine out of the bag, hehe . either way i don't have a laptop. i've used friends laptops in my car w/ them inorder to run it w/ my car. can you get ahold of one?

Mine was staying in closed loop and when I changed the 02 it fixed it. I know you have the opposite problem but I think the 02 is to blame.

Right, I would guess the O2 sensor is done. You have to make sure your car isn't running obscenely rich with larger injectors or you can make an O2 sensor go bad in a big hurry.

I managed to ruin one myself when tuning the 8 injector setup. Not to mention, two sets of spark plugs. Fortunately, replacing spark plugs is a lot easier and cheaper than the O2 sensor.

Finally, no code is necessary to have a bad O2 sensor. Especially when it's merely fouled as mine was. If you checked your codes, you may even have a P0171 lean code, even though your car is actually running really rich. What's even more ridiculous about all of that, is once the O2 sensor goes bad in this manner, and you possibly receive the P0171 code, your car's ecu will react by sending your car into a preprogrammed fuel map which includes a 24+% long term fuel trim to richen things up even more!! emoji
