i drove home tonight from being out. everything was fine. i went to restart my car, and it made a noise like vrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, and the engine won't turn over. as long as i held the key in the start position, it would make that noise. it's not a single click. i tried to jump the car.... nothing. if it helps, it seems like the noise is coming from from someplace near the exhaust heat shield just in front of the valve cover. any guesses? maybe starter? can't be the alternator, right? what else would cause that sound?

Sounds like your starter is fried. Very easy to replace on a eclipse.

10 times outta 10 I'm willing to bet miti is right it's your starter, but another thing, dont' try to start it up to much or continue trying to drive because you risk totally screwing your flywheel gear, the starter is a cinch to change it's rignt in front of the engine, we are indeed blessed on that one.

I just tried to take out my starter today...PITA!!!...had to take out a fan, and the heat shield...and then 30-45 min. later, finally done...it was that damn exhaust manifold in the way!!!...any tips to make it go smoother???
