#30570, "Noisey front end"

I was on my way back home after going to the nopi nationals in Dinwiddie, VA and I started to hear this DUK DUK DUK DUK sound near the front of my car. I started tring to narrow down the possiblities by listening to the noise real closely. I even had one of my friends walk beside the car and listen to it. It only seems to make the sound when I reach 25 mph and lower when slowing down. What could this possibly be??? Please help. If you have any ideas on what it could be and might know but have any questions to help desifer the problem lemme know and ill let you know. tia

if it's only while you are slowing down at slow speeds.. it's probably warped brake rotors combined with possibly loose brake-pads/calipers.. that'd cause something like that.

Give us more info. Did this just start to happen, or did it get worst over time? Where is it coming from? Wheels, suspension, engine?

This just started happening on Sat that I've noticed at least. Its coming from the front wheels it appears, but it could possibly be the suspension. I asked my friend who was listening while walking beside the car and he said he thinks its coming from the wheels. He also said it wasn't making noise on the passenger side, but im gonna have him check again later today. I just hope it isn't something to bad.

No I haven't I didn't even know there was one. When was the recall announced? What other recalls are there? What year or gen did they recall? my car is a 97. I tried to check the recall list on the mistubishi.com site and it was all in Japanese take a look

Go here and type in recalls then hit search it will give you a results page and if you scroll down you will see a link that says Jump to Recall List http://www.mitsubishi.com/index_e.cfm

This is the page I get when I hit the Jump to Recall List link
http://www.mitsubishi-motors.co.jp/japan/contents/recall-list.html

So if anyone can lemme know that would be great. tia

Just drive past the Dealership, and schedule a date. When mine started going bad, the springs started creaking, but only at slow speeds. It also made really bad metal on metal grinding noises when I would turn the steering wheel. Get it checked out quick before your suspension falls off!!!

it's on 95-99 eclipse's, all models.

when they started going out on a friend of mine's eclipse.. during hard cornering at high speeds the whole front of the car would start to wave around and drift around on the road. very not cool.

I just called the mistu dealer and talked to service to make an appointment to get the ball joints fixed and asked if that was covered due to the recall. He said that he would have to look at my ball joints and check my VIN# to be able to determine that. I said I was told that it was 95 -99 eclipses all models. He then said I don't know who told you that but they were misinformed. So I made the appointment for this coming monday and if it does great if not then I guess I'll be payin for it out of my own pocket. But lemme ask you this...will they not fix it due my car being lowered, and blame the fact that the ball joints went bad due to that??? I would think if there is a recall then that wouldn't matter. Ok so he is gonna look at my ball joints and check the vin number...basically he will tell me its not part of the recall and charge me bc he probably hates people that mod there cars. Can anyone tell me if my car is under this recall or not. I have a 97 GS...tia

because of the recal you shouldn't be charged.. if they give you crap.. threaten to talk to mitsubishi and complain about their dealership.. then actually talk to mitsubishi and complain about their dealership.. hehe.. and it maybe not be a recal on every 95-99 eclipse.. but it does affect all models.
they will probably give you crap about being lowered, but they do that and try to tell you it voided the warrenty.. but they are lying. the only time ANY aftermarket part voids the warrenty, is when it causes the problem the work is being done for.

the recall is for all 95-99 eclipse Nt's I dunno about the turbos. They HAVE to fix this for free, no matter if you have altered suspension or not. Do not go to them without having called them first and given them your vin# over the phone, so you know the recall has not been done yet. If you go there they might try to trap you into charging for stupid shit. There might be other recalls for your car, just check the 2gnt homepage in the TSB/recall section. When I took mine they did 3 different recalls and detailed my car for free (it was nice of them they don't have to detail your car) then they also "looked" over my car to find things wrong they could charge me for. One of which was a blown head gasket which I have not had to this day. Then after all is said and done call mitsu and tell them they have idiots working for them at so-and-so dealership that do not have any info to give to customers on one of their biggest recalls.

Ive started to notice the sound is all the time now and it sounds like metal to metal grinding. I called the dealership and gave them my vin# and he said I had no open recalls on my car... :'( If its not the ball joints what else could it possibly be??? I just want to have an idea before I take it to a garage. tia

The recall is for ALL 2gnt's... reguardless.. no if's and or butts. If your the 2nd owner, you may not recieve a recall notice, or the previous owner might have had it serviced already... I doubt the ball joints are causing your prob though from the sounds of it. But I'd have to be there physically to look at it to make an educated judgement. Reguardless, have the recall done. They may just inspect them for wear tolerances, if they are worn too bad, they will replace them. Have them only do the lower arms... unless you want to foot the bill for whatever else they do. Also, if they say you have to pay for the recall... just pay... and get copys of all the receipts, and let them know that it will be filed with mitsubishi and reimbursed by them, dont get smart with them, but just let them know that it will be handled by a higher power.

Ok so I should keep my appointment for monday and take it in and tell them to only service the lower arms? Then if they charge me for the recall pay for it anyway? I called the dealership on friday and they said they couldn't run my vin to check if the recall had already been done...so I called another local mitsu dealer and they ran my vin and the guy said "you don't have any open recalls on your car". So your saying still take it to the other dealer that I made an appointment with that said there computer was down, and have them look at it?
