i bought my new eclipse NT, and four days later.. the syncro blew... every time i take it up past 3000 rpms in first gear, second wont syncronise, and it makes an awful grinding noise. While the trans is out i want to put in a new clutch, but i have two questions.. the first being, what is a good clutch for the car, and is it worth it to replace the syncro myself, or just have it done at a trans shop?

You can't replace the syncro ring assembly yourself, you'll have to take it somewhere, (unless you have the right tools and have done it before) and they're going to rape you with no lube to do it.

What dino said. You will need to buy another tranny. The shafts are very expensive, cheaper to buy a junkyard tranny.

Its expensive as hell, I had to do it under warrenty it was like 1400, I had the same exact problem as you though and it sucked, a new clutch wouldn't be a bad idea, and it shouldn't be any more labor at all, a stock clutch is like 500 from satan, so 150 more for a cm stage 4, later

yargh.... it shouldnt be that hard thought from what ive figgured out.. its just all labor thats the cost at a trans shop.. its one damn little ring.. i work at a dealership and ive gotten about 5 faxed exploded diagrams from mitsubishi. but a local shop says they can do it for 500. do we'll see how this plays out.
