#30388, "erratic idle"

Just in the past couple days my engine started idling erratically. Nothing specific triggers it, but I mostly notice it when im at a stop or in park. (idle runs between 1000 and 1700 - usually is about 750) I'm thinking it's just time to get new wires - I still have the stock wires and I'm at 54,000 (already had the 60k service done) I'll probably get new plugs too, my NGKs have about 5k on them. Should that fix it or am I going in the wrong direction?

Thanks,
Fearless

I don't think wires would do that. Something like a vacuum leak might do that. Try checking for leaks first - it's cheaper anyway.

yes if it is idling up and down while you are sitting at a light or in park or whatever it is a vacuum leak most likly... my friends Eclipse was idling from 700-4000 and we found his was leaking on the intake manifold seal. get a can of brake cleaner(aerosole) and spray around the seals and wherever you spray and your engine bogs down is where the leak is...

Not to scare you or anything but I had been having the same erratic idle ish going on with my car for nearly a year. I replaced nearly every sensor, vacuum line and anything else that I thought might be causing it. Mine ended up being my ECU. I know that that is the worst case scenario but I figured that I would just throw that into the things to possibly look at.
