Ok i got my datalogger in, dl the software but I went to plug into my lap top. The connector on the cable doesn't plug into any of the ports on the back of my lap top...

What do I need to buy, from where, and how much should I expect to pay??

My girl got something that she paid 40 bucks for to make it work, but there has to be something cheeper??????

Thanks

It's the serial port right plug right? What laptop do have,? Well do u have a usb port open or anything like that. they sell cables that will change over anything to anything. Also do u have pcmci slot open you caould by a pcmci card that has the port u need but thouse cost like 20-70 bucks depending on what it is. My onlt consirn is that program looks for a certin port or (RIQ) you will have to tell it where to go.

Why would I need that?

I just need something to plug into the logger cable so that it will be able to plug into my compaq presario 700, 2001 I think.

Why do they sell the cable with that old connector on it?
So anyway we got a piece of cable that would plug into the logger cable and the other end into a USB port on the lap top, BUT it still says it can't connect to the car???

What is going on?

Maybe a stupid question, but do you have the key in the ON position when you are trying to connect? Don't mean to insult you, just trying to help.

Yeah I got two tens in the back...two ten pound bottles!!!!

ok I have a Compaq Presario 700. It is a 2001 or 2002.
I have 2 USB ports, the port for a printer, one other long one, and one for a mouse, I think thats it, may be other though.
Thanks man I would appreciate that. It is a pain having something and not being able to use it.

Thanks

you need a db9 serial connector, or an adapter from the parallel port to a db9 female.

The datalogger cable does not use ethernet. it only uses a CAT5 patch cable for easy of construction and replacement.
