Well the good news is that finally after almost 2 months I got my car back from the rebuild. It made the almost 100 mile trip back to my place, but barely. The bad news is that I still have a problem. Right now I have no cat because the guy at the shop took it off because he said that it was getting really hot and was affraid that it would mess up my car. I need a new fuel press. guage because the on I have now from Hahn does not read properly. Also my A/F guage does not work any more it does not sweep back and forth in open loop like it used to. Now the readings start at rich and just fall all the way to lean and then it does not even register on the guage. Today I am going to start simple and recheck all the wiring to the guage. Also the car runs like crap it hesitates and stuggles to move. Not to sure what that is, may be just my plugs I hope? I have not postd in a while so I just figured would rant a little sorry for the long post. Peace

well i see no point for him to remove your cat unless its not working right anymore (cel code). i would put it back or get a new one.. check your map sensor, and o2 sensor... do you have any cel? make sure the plugs are ok, and the wires are also and in the correct order...

Freshly rebuilt motors never run great for the first few miles. Just check the sensors and wires and plugs and make sure everything is connected correctly

Why is that everytime I hear someone getting a rebuild done, it seems like the car runs like shit? Can someone explain please?

Thanks for the info I will start checking those things tomarrow. I do have a CEL but I cant remember how to do the key dance. I think it was like turn the key 3 times and the CEL should flash could someone refresh me. I just got a new O2 sensor so doubt it is that. The weird thing it that the A/F guage is hooked up right but does not work any more. I cant tell how rich I am running. I think it is pretty rich though because I am using a lot more fuel than usual. I think the wire that the A/F is taped into may be bad or have a bad connection with the ECU plug. How do I check to see if the MAP sensor is operating correctly?

Well I tried the key dance and came up with a lot of shit. I think I got a 12, 51, 24, 14, and one long light with seven short lights. I am not sure what they all mean. Has anyone gotten these and have an idea of how to fix them? I will try to get to auto zone tomarrow to get it done right. I hope they are nothing to expensive or serrious.

code 12: direct power input to the PCM has been disconnected within the last 50 key-on cycles (that makes sence considering you just had a rebuild)

code 51: Fuel System Lean

code 24: Throttle position sensor voltage does not agree with MAP

code 14: MAP sensor voltage too high

now im by no means a mechanic, but somthing tells me the MAP sensor is messed up.

That is what someone here had suggested a little while back cant remember who though. I have a Chiltons manual and will look in there today on how it should be hooked up and the trouble shooting for it. If anyone knows a short cut or easy way to tell if it is bad that would help me a lot. Also about how much are they from satan? I am still going to auto zone to have them run a check and see what they think.

Could all of these problems come from a bad connection at the ECU itself? The shop where I had the car at told me that the ECU and plugs might be having a bad conection. If this was the case could that be causeing all the codes ad problems to come up? Or is it more likely that I just need a new MAP sensor? Can I try and go to a junk yard and get one off any 95-99 420a or are there differences between them?

Try to resolve your problem in this order:

1) Check your MAP voltage under boost. If it's less than 4.2 or 4.3, your FCD(HRC Fuel Mapper) is failing you. (I suspect this one more than anything) To check your voltage under boost ,you can either go to your check sensor screen on your S-AFC. IF you don't have an SAFC, hook a multimeter up to your MAP sensor(hook your red Multimeter wire to your yellow with black stripe wire and black on the MAP black ground)

2) Check your MAP voltage under boost. If it's more than 4.7, your FCD is failing you. You're having intermittent fuel cuts, since your ECU is reading boost.

*** If it's either of the above, get a Missing Link from Group5 Motorsports, then take your HRC FCD, and take a big ole shit on it, and send it back to HRC*** Since they sent you the same the in the beginning, you shouldn't be greedy about it.

(the same exact problem almost cost me an engine.)

3) If it's neither of the above, and your MAP voltage is around 4.3-4.7 under boost, get a new MAP sensor.

4) If you buy a MAP sensor and it's still having the same problems, it could be a variety of other things. (come back to us then)
