I was wondering if anyone out there can help me. I just put both intake and exhaust cam gears on my car but i can't seem to get the engine to idle like it used too. it wants to stall. i need to know what everyone else has there cam gear degrees set at. thanks for your help. if you have any other advice please let me know.

for the most part.. most people on here are running 2 advaned on the intake, and 2 retard on the exhaust (NA of course)... what are yours set at?
also, you may be off a tooth or two on the tbelt.. check to make sure that it is catching correctly. i have heard that the tick marks on the aem gears do not match up correctly either... might have to match them up to the stock gears. good luck.

I have had mine for about 3 months now.... I have tried a lot of diff setting but I can't really tell wich one is better seeing that every setting does something. at first I adv intake 2 ret exhaust 2. then I ret them both 2 them ret them both 5, then I red an article on import tuner that they had put aem cam gears on a 420A eclipse and got 8 wheel HP on a dyno.... but they didn't say what setting they used so I e-mailed them and the guy told me they AVANCED the INTAKE CAM 7deg(the rear one..close to the intake manifold)and left the EXHAUST CAM at 0deg. He said any change in the exhaust cam lost power. try this and let me know what you think? Thats how mine are set now..... you will have CAM LOBE ..sounds like you have cams or a big V8 hahahha

I had the same prob. when i installed my cam gears. My car had an eratic idle and it stalled out alot, also sounded like a tractor. The problem with AEM's cam gears is that their center line's aren't at tdc. I had to re-etch mine to the stock centerline. You can mess with the adv. and retd. all day but your gears aren't in sync. There are posts about this problem, probably the most lengthy one was by me, just search for "aem cam gear install" or my name for the post. Hope it helps!

It is interesting that you've said this! I was going to try doing something like that myself.
I had mine adjusted +1 on the intake and -1 on the exhaust the last time I was at the drag strip when I hit 90.66mph in the 1/4 mile, but didn't improve my 1/4 mile time. I talked to an old (and I do mean old ) racing friend of mine, he said setting the cams as I had would increase the overlap and should move the power higher up in the RPM range.
But then he told me to try setting the exhaust cam back to stock and leave it there, and leave the intake where it is or adjust it a little more (such as nudge it to +2). He didn't think such a radical index (+7) would be needed, that just a small change would do.
So, while I doubt I'm going to go to +7 since that might screw up the idle, I'm going to try keeping the exhaust stock and advancing the intake more.

yes, the AEM gears have the timing marks in the wrong place (they are for a neon) you need to mark them correcly before installing them (just do a search, it's been talked about before)
also make sure you have the tension set right on the timing belt (follow the procedure int he shop manual EXACTLY!) and that you check and DOUBLE CHECK the timing marks on the crank and the cam gears when you install them to make sure they line up perfectly!
If the marks are where they should be on the cam gears, all the timing marks line up as they should, and the belt is tensioned properly thent he car will idle fine. If you mess it up like I did the first time the car will idle like shit and you'll have to take it apart and re-do everything.
