ok, so i was driving this morning, and everything was going fine, and then this little crappy ass honda drove by me at like 80. i started driving normal to catch up and pass him, but all of a sudden, i couldn't get my car into 4th gear. it just wouldn't click in gear. so i decided to try 3rd, and it wouldn't go into 3rd either. i pulled over, and once my car came to a complete stop, every gear was simple to shift into. as i started to drive away in 1st gear, i noticed that at anything higher than like 2,000 rpms, the other gears were really really hard to shift into. forget about downshifting... the car won't let you downshift at all. it really won't let you feather a gear either. it's more or less a quick click into each gear is all you can get. what could be wrong? the clutch isn't making any kind of noises and there isn't any kind of odd smell coming from it. i checked the clutch fluid, and it's about a quarter inch below the full line. this wouldn't cause that to happen, right? anything else?

From what it sounds like, I think it's time for a new clutch. My last clutch did the same thing to me. It didn't have any weird smells or anything, I just couldn't shift it into gear as I was driving. We took the clutch out the next day and there was nothing left of it. Good luck.

Did you have to pull the motor and trans out to change the clutch?

Didn't have to pull the motor but we did have to drop the tranny.

yeah, i think you are right jason. so, lets see here. where to begin? i have a guy that said he will help me change it out. what exactly do i need to buy? a clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing, right? am i gonna need tranny fluid and any gaskets or anything? how much money should i plan to spend? i think i'm just gonna do another stock clutch. i have the chilton's manual, and i think that will help us get this project done, but approximately how much time should i set aside for the entire job? is this a really big project? TIA

I had the same problem a few years ago. I was gonna race a prelude on the highway but when I tried to downshift it wouldnt go into 4th or any gear for that matter. Turns out I broke my pressure plate and had to drop $600 for a new clutch. Good luck

I had that same problem with it being hard to shift and the clutch fluid being low. come to find out my front motor mount was weak and when the engine torqued, it caused the hydraulic line for the clutch to hit the frame and eventually cracked it, which resulted in sporadic loss of pressure in the clutch. sometimes it would engage and disengage fine, then the next minute it wouldnt do anything. I had the mount and line replaced and never had any troubles after that. also one of your hydraulic clutch cylinders could be going bad too.

Before I had this car I had money.

I had the same problem about 10 minutes before my clutch blew up. It wouldnt go into gear then I raced a 1g talon and I messed it up for good in second gear. Now it wont do anything.

I had the same problem and my tranny was fried... happened all of a sudden on one normal afternoon, bye bye tranny...

same here. blew my clutch under daily driving however. Make sure you get a power bleeder or find someone who has one. After you change your clutch you have to bleed it! I drove home 30 miles without any clutch pressure and the car wouldnt shift and when i was at a stop with the clutch in and let off the break, the car would start moving forward! My clutch completely shattered btw...i still have all the little pieces around here somewhere.

who's word? there is no way to tell for sure till you pull the tranny and examine it. you will need jacks, stands, assorted wrenches and other tools, mopar tranny fluid, and thats bout it. Other than whatever is damaged... hopefully its the clutch.. then you will just need to buy a modular clutch which will come with a new TO bearing...
