I need some tips on installing my clutch masters stage 4. Its going in next weekend. I know armound has a nice write up on it but is there anything else I need to know?

How high does the car have to be. Do I need to have stands under the back end too? Or can I get the tranny out with just the front lifted up?

Yeah its modular. I have a 97. I plan on doing it this weekend. Should be a learning experience.

No reason to have the back end up as well, unless you just really want to.... Just block up the back tires, jack up the front as much as you can, and block it up for safety, hydraulic jacks have been known to give out or leak.

Ahhhhhh the beauty of having a Hydraulic lift in my garage!

there are 2 ways of putting the clutch on. One is to put it on the tranny first, the other is to put it on the mototr first if you dont understand me on this email me at rpm97talon@yahoo.com . The easier way is to slip the clutch on the tranny first then bolt it up. It will save you quite a bit of time. late mike

put the clutch in the bellhousing first, THEN bolt the tranny back up, and reinstall the flexpalte bolts... it is MUCH easier this way... I thought I could easily bolt the clutch to the flexplate first, then jab the input shaft right in there but its a lot harder that way but possible... save yourself the frustration and do it the other way

The flex plate is where the clutch attaches to the engine right? How can the bolts go on if the tranny is already on there? Arent the bolts inside of the housing? I know I sound like a noobie but I have never messed with trannys. I am going to have a experienced 4g63 tranny guy with me though.

modular is when the fly and cluth r attached right? and the non mod is when they r seperate.

i don't remember.. but when i did mine they were together. the biggest bitch is taking everything appart. once you drop the tranny it's all down hill. also i only had the front jacked, i took about 6 hours for me an my bro in law who works mostly on domestics.

we bolted the clutch to the bellhouse first(the motor part) then put the tranny back in. also make sure that you get the little clips that hold the shift lines (not sure on the name) its the lines that the move with the shifter inside. we didn't get the one that is kinda hidden under the battery and shit on all the way, when i took it for a test drive i got like 8 miles or so and all of a sudden had no second gear it wouldn't go in. had trouble getting into second fourth and reverse if i remember correctly all because that u clip wasn't in all the way.

if you don't already have it make sure u pick up the socket to take off the big bolt in the midddle of the front wheel assembly (not sure wht to call it either) but it's huge and requires a special sized socket that costs like 10-15......

Yes, the flexplate is bolted to the engine, but there is an access panel on the lowest part of the bellhousing under the car. You can get under it and look at it. Couple screws and or bolts holding it in place. This is how you will get the old clutch off. You will have to loosten a bolt, then turn the flexplate, loosen another one, take out the other one you loosened first, then spin it and repeate process... i suck at explaining things, but its no big deal. also when you bolt the new clutch assembly to the flexplate, if it doesnt seem the holes match up, then its cause they arent, there are 4 ways it can go, one of them all the holes will line up, so dont give up if it doesnt bolt up the first try. Just spin it to the next one, try again and again till you get it.

Ok that makes sense . What about that Big socket ecliptrider was talkign about? What size is it?

He's talking about the socket to get the nut off the axle ends, it is big, i had it from a tool set i bought awhile back, biggest socket i have, just dont remember the size... so its not anything special just big... look in a fsm for the size, maby 1 7/8 or 2''.

hey want a little secret..when i took out my enging i didnt take out the axles all i did was remove the boot near the tranny and move unpluged the axle with out taking it out..if u do this put a bag to cover the axle end that will have grease on it..dont know the name..that socket is pretty expensicve its like 27 bucks.

You can pull the tranny without unbolting the clutch from the flexplate. Pull the axles, disconnect the linkages, take off tranny mounts, and fluid lines. Take off tranny to block bolts, then it should come out. The modular clutch will still be bolted to the engine but you still have to get at the bolts at the bottom of the bellhouisng to take the clutch assembly off of the flexplate. Bolt up the new clutch to the flexplate, then get the tranny up to the block and slide the tranny spline into the clutch, bolt it back to the motor ect...
