Three inch can go along the entire route of the stock exhaust. The only problem is getting it over the rear lower control arm brace. 2.5 is a tight but good fit over it. All 3 inch ones that I have seen have to go under the brace. This can cause your exhaust to hang low in this area. Most people do not have problems with it unless you live in an area that is not low car friendly. I do seem to remember a cat back that went over the brace, but cannot remember which one. I think it had rubbing issues as well.

If you are getting an exhaust made, if it is 3 inch have them go under the brace, no big deal.

The pacesetter is the whole thing, muffler and all, it's 2.5" and fits pretty good. For 160 bucks you can;t beat it really...just cut the muffler off if you don't like it and slap a different one on....

go to howell's site, or summitracing.com

they both have pix... i have a pic of it compared to the stock exhaust on my site http://seangordon1.tripod.com go to the mods link, then the pix of mods link, and it shud be a few down...

i dont think they sell just the piping...and the resonator isnt too good when usin a straight thru muffler (may be diff w/turbo application)

peace

Its fine with turbo. My pacesetter sounds really nice! I have a hayame muffler on it though which helps.

so the pacesetter exhaust is called Monza? i checked it out on howell site, looks fairly good.. but really no description of piping size etc...http://howell.mountain.net/sdc/howell/ProductAvail.asp?Product_ID=245
how much did you guys pay for this catback? and also how much did you spend to have this muffler cut, and to weld a better flowing muffer ? so i know how much to spend about.. im thinking about getting this catback, and just to buy a muffler of my choice and have it welded on would be alot cheaper then doing a custom mandrel bend piping etc? dont you all think?.. and this pacesetter Monza exhaust will go over the mental bar ( like stock )?..hey dave, this muffler you got i remember reading about this muffler before.. where did u get it and how much? how would you compare it to others ?
thanks

What is the apexi pipe size I would assume that it's at least 2.5 inch right? Just curious why your going to change it is it just 2.25 or what?

I paid $160 for the catback. its 2.5". I paid the muffler shop $50 to cut off the old one and weld on the hayame. The hayame muffler I got was about $189. Its kinda expensive. You can find a way cheaper muffler than that. Heres a pic..

the reason i might get rid of my apexi ws is because the piping goes under the rear metal bar and it is a bit over 2.5", and also the can is to dame shiny and big for me now.. i live in so cal and recently i have been hearing stories about cops poping hoods, and seeing imports getting pulled with there hoods open.. i really am trin my best to stay away from this kind of stuff...so i might get a magnaflow and throw on a stock looking tip or so...
oh dave, thanks for the info.. the muffler looks cool...

the shop i go to for exhaust work up here in the bay area did my custom 2.5" mandrel exhaust from the cat back with a bomb muffler. they are called golden auto muffler. if any place you go to says much of anything about it not being possible, or being too difficult...then laugh in their face and leave like i did. a very good experienced shop like the one i go to will have absolutely NO problems with fitting two and a half. dont waste time dealing with pansys emoji

Wahahaha are you talking about this 3" downpipe back exhuast system ^_^

Here's a more upto date pic of the front, haha now I'm kinda glad that RRE tie bar hangs so low.

As you can see I love my exhuast system. I just hate going to muffler shops and asking if they can do this and do that and spending all that money but I love it. Now I have to find a flex section for my dump tube though. It is a tad on the loud side though... Going under the crossmember is the best cuz it's straighter but the dude said he would route it thhrough the top, what he did was roll my trunk with a crowbar so it would fit.

I have the 3" ATR exhaust that goes over the brace and it only hits the brace a little so i put a little rag between them it's fine. My car is lowered 1.75 in the rear also.
