Okay, I may be a dumbass but I bought one of these. I only paid $3.50 plus shipping so it wasn't that big of a loss...but it's only a small resistor you plug into your intake temperature sensor. Supposedly the concept is that it tricks your engine into thinking it's got colder air coming in than it really does. I noticed a fractional difference...but that could just be psycological horsepower and not the real thing. (by fractional I mean maybe 1 or 2) I know for a fact that it won't ad 20 like the ad says...I wasn't that stupid. Couple of questions.

Will this hurt my engine in the long run?

Is it doing anything at all?

If anyone wants one of these I'll tell you what kind of resistor to buy. You can get them at radio shack. Unfortunately I think they come in packs of 5 or 10 so you'll have a few extras. If there is any benefit at all it's really cheap and easy. If not I wasted a few dollars and 5 minutes worth of time.

that is unfortunately a bs mod. Look in the archives, it's been posted about before. It tricks the ecu into thinking the air is cooler but the ecu will "learn" that you are trying to trick it and it will cease to add any benefit. DOn't think it will harm the ecu, i think it just doesn't work.

Actually I think the resistor will do the opposite.

Think of how your sensor works. You have a wire with a current flowing through it.

With differant tempatures the current flow in the sensor.

->Cool air is more dense and will slow the current.
->Hot air is less dense and will alow more current to flow in the sensor.

With this in mind. A resistor will make you sensor think your intake is cooler than it actually is.

This means you ECU will give you kmore fuel to accomidate the denser air mixture.

My car had pulled it's wires out of the AIT harness and were just hanging there. IN THEORY, this gave me a RICH fuel mixture which made my car run like crap.

What I did in my car for a temporary solution is cross the wires.

This leaned out my mixture and gave me back my HP.

I'm just worried about detonation for now until I get my harness fixed.

I say don't waist your time and money and just get some real mods.

Of course...but when you have only had the car for a month these things take time I eventually want an AEM CAI and full Greddy exhaust. But $$$ is the issue right now
