I just put my motor back together. I pulled the head and installed stock bore wiseco 8.5:1 pistons and eagle rods. I also installed AEM cam gears and a new timing belt as well. My problem is that the car will not idle correctly. It seems to run fine above 1000 rpms but at idle its sounds like its missing caming real hard what ever you want to call it at idle and will want to cut off. I’ve checked the timing several times and it appears to be lined up correctly. I also checked to make sure that i had the cams installed correctly, exhaust cam pin down and intake cam gear up. I have the cam gears set at 0. I put new plugs in and checked to make sure all were firing with a timing light. I did a compression test to make sure I hadn’t bent any valves while changing the timing belt and all the cylinders were consistent with each other. The only CEL light I have is that my map sensor voltage to high \ low but this came on before the motor work, when I installed my SAFC. I also went back and looked all over to make sure everything was connected correctly. Is it possible to have my timing off and it idle horrible and run fine above 1k, or is it a sensor that is messed up. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as i am beating my head against the wall.

I just went through the MAP sensor problem myself. My car would not idle and when it ran, it ran terribly. Ended up, somehow my AFC changed from being at Pressure 7in 7out to Karman 6in 6out. I changed it back and it idles and runs fine. You might check that out.

Im in N carolina I've got a car show the 3rd. Anybody else got any ideas about what might be going on. I pulled it back down and the timing gears never line up exactly im thinkin that the intake cam may be off by one notch. If that dosent work I think that im just gonna try and put the stock cam gears back in.

The timing marks on the AEM cam gears are off. Take your stock cam gear and overlay it on top of the AEMs and make your self new marks. It think it has something to do with these being the same gears for neons and they are marked slightly different. I believe Todd went through the same problem.

how long have you driven it like this? b/c during the break in of the rebuild, the ecu needs to reset and find the new settings... the rough idle should be expected for a while.

I got it fixed, I didnt get the cams timed right. It was the intake cam was off one tooth when i lined it up. Idles great now just gotta fix the ticking noise. Thanks All
