OK, I have a cel, and a messed up cat. Should I gut it? Or should I take it to the dealer and get a new one in case my town ges emissions testing, and run with the old 1 on gutted until test time? Or should I just buy a hi flow? I figure a gutted one is better than hi flow.

depends on your price limit. dont get a stock one they are expensive. get a hi flow one like catco ( stock replacement ) around $100, or random tech which i hear is very good around 250.. dont gut your cat, it will smell and if not dont right could hurt performance.. hope this helps..

Well as you know I gutted mine and I love the results. I get a pop when I get on it on the 1-2 and 2-3 shift. When we did mine we emptied it completely. We took out both the catalyst and the metal netting used to keep it in place. It went from me barely being able to see light coming from the other side to being able to see through it completely. I cant really say how much of a gain I got from it since I didnt drive it right after the UDP install, but I like the change in my exhaust note (Its was already deep as shit, but this made it even deeper). I just got a CEL last night on my way to the club so Im gonna solder a resistor in order to get rid of it. If you decide to gut your cat the write up for the resistor is here:

Does this smell also happen with an installed test pipe. Just wonderin', cause I'm supposed to get a test pipe in the mail tomorrow, and I sure as hell don't want it to cause a bad smell.
