Well an intake port and polish is really nothing more than smoothing out the intake runners, removing the cast flashings and enlarging them slightly. Alot of the plemun is hard or impossible to get to but all of the runners can be done. I guess a shop would use a die grinder but us at home use a dremel with flex attachment. Different than a head port and polish where you actually need some knowledge on where and how much to port. All I know is when I was done, along with a bored TB and port matching it felt like I put a lightweight flywheel on it.

A good friend of mine works for a machine shop, and I called him about P&P on my intake, he said that if they can't reach every part of the inside of the intake, then there is no point in spending the money to having anything more than a gasket match port job. There will be surging, and a disruption of airflow if the intake as a whole can not be reached. The gasket match is the best bet in most two stage and hard to reach intakes because it will yield results and it's cheap. The other route is a process in which they push a coarse material through the intake and it "sandblasts" everything smooth. Most of the time this is expensive, but is also usually bench tested to see how much extra air is flowing.

i don't think that is entirely true, some of the guys here did there own p&p job and didn't reach every spot inside the runner and they still noticed significant gain

You can reach every part of the runners and it does work. There are different shape and size attachment stones that can reach everywhere. Keep in mind its a two piece manifold so its not like you have to reach very far. The only part that cant be reached entirely is the plenom. The shop that did matched it to my head and TB told me the same thing. They really just didn't want to do it so I did it myself.

Ya I was also told that for the best and most even result, you have to extrude hone it. They can try to get most of the inside of the intake manifold, but it will still not be nearly as smooth as extrude honing. Extrude honing is usually 300 to 400 bucks though.

It took hours and hours and hours and hours and by the time I was done I had a pile of aluminum big enough to make some more shit. I did it in a day but I literally grinded for 6-8hrs non stop. Juan and some other people worked on theirs for days, weeks and months. I dont know anybody who was able to do it in a short amount of time cause it takes alot to get to all the hard to reach places and to get it smooth. All I did was buy the dremel with flex and additional stones, practiced on a old part I wasn't going to use and just started working on it. The further along I went the better I got with it. When I was done I just hoped for the best. The only part I didn't mess with much are the fuel injector castings that recess down into the manifold. I figured they were cast that way for a reason. I did smooth them but didn't grind them down any. Of course extrude honing is better but the down time and price was too much for my limited needs.
