I am going to check my crank gear to make sure the timing is right. I might have to take off the UDP to see the marks. Can anyone give me any tips on removing the afx udp? I think it should be easier than removing the stock one right? What kind of puller should I use? I never installed my UDP becuase I had the shop do it when I got my timing belt done. THANKS

Ok what is gonna happen is you will strip out some of the threads in the UDP....you need a harmonic balencer pulley..autozone lends them....you can figure out the rest....use alot of heat.

You don't "need" the heat Dave just rent the puller from autozone and get out your breaker bar and crowbar(to stop the pulley from turning) just be careful where you put that crowbar!!!

Strip the threads on the UDP? No.

Yes use a harmonic balancer pulley. wedge a screwdriver along the topof the puller and the bolts holding the puller to the pulley, this holds the pulley form turning and doesn't risk twisting the aluminum of the pulley. They back the bolt out 1/2" to 1" at a time and push the pulley off.

your going to have to rent or buy a damper pulley cause the three jaw puller wont work unless u want to break the pulley

The harmonic balancer puller should bring it right off, make sure you thread the bolts in far enough to get full engagement. If you have already stripped the threads run the bolts clear through an put a nut on the back side to pull it off.

Should the rental harmonic balancer puller from AutoZone include the right size bolts to pull it? If not, what size do I need?

It should include bolts that have the right diameter and thread pitch, but they may not be long enough. If they are too short, then just go to the hardware store and match up the bolts with longer ones. By the way, you can buy harmonic balancer pullers for under 20 bucks. Mine was 15 bucks and I have used it to pull off my UDP many many times. It is also extremely helpful if you have access to an air compressor and an impact wrench.

Also, when you use the puller, you should put some assembly lube, grease, or very viscous oil on the center shaft that pushes on the crank bolt. By doing this, it creates less friction on the puller and therefor applies more force to the pully with the same amount of effort.

You will also want to get a longer bolt from the hardware store that matches your crank bolt. That way, when you almost have the pully off, there will be more threads in the crank so you wont risk striping your crank bolt or the threads in the crank.

I don't remember about the AFX UDP, but I remember that the AutoZone puller did NOT fit the stock crank pulley. So I bought mine from Sears which worx on both the stock & afx udp, fyi.

U know, I wish U'd SELL YOUR CAR so my currently ill-funded temptation will subside. I've been fine as recent cause I hadn't C'n any posts from U, but I still like the color. U B'ing local just makes it worse/better
