Okay, I am going to do the swap this weekend from the big ugly black pulley. In all the "how to install" write up I have read, it is easier to put the new pulley on with a longer bolt to help pull in onto the crank. Can someone tell me what size the length the bolt is that is required to do this?

Nope. I already did that but just did it again and all it says is buy a 1 inch longer bolt than stock. Nothing about the actual size of the bolt. I guess I could pull off the old bolt and drive the car to the hardware store to pick one up. hmmmmmmmm.

uuuuh, I wouldnt do that. with the pulley off you wont be charging your battery with the altenator and you will probably end up stranded

Its a 12mm bolt and the threads are 1.75

The length of the bolt is right at 3-3/8"

Not sure in mm but I am sure you can figure it out. That measurement does not include the head of the bolt. I know this because I had to retap my crank after a failed attempt. I also screwed up the old bolt and got a new one from the dealer. You got lucky because I was cleaning my garage tonight and ran accross the old bolt.

I did finally get mine installed by the way and all is well. Thanks to the help from the guys on this board.

I used a 100mm length version of the bolt. I picked up a pair(couldn't buy a single bolt) at a local John Deere tractor dealer. 100mm is plenty long.

well do what i did take out the stock pulley bolt take it to a hardwear store or better yet to a store that speciallises in nuts and bolts(look up under bolts in the yellow pages) and buy one that is over an inch longer than the stock one. the reason for this is the the puller presses on the head of the bolt to pull the pulley, well its all fine and dandy untill the pulley hit the head of the bolt and you realize the its not even half way out..been there done that
oh and when u get ready to install the new one make sure that the pulley is in there all the wayit shoul almost be rubbing on the timing belt cover or check by sticking your fingerwhere the bolt goes in and that there isnt a gap between the pulley and the cranckshaft or u can take a straight edge or ruler and make sure that the new pulley is well alingned with the ac pulley because if its not your going to lose belts faster than a prostitute losses it panties.

LMAO this is very thru, first i shredded belts but somehow the stayed there, if you guys could have seen my belt "costum" 3/4/5 grooves on some parts of the belt. Now after i had to take the stock pulley and put it back in i have lost 2 belts, but i'm pretty sure i know where in the city it is i just have to pick it up in the middle of the road.

If you have trouble finding the bolt, find a chevy truck at a junk yard, and take out the body mount bolts attached to the frame rails. These bolts are a perfect thread match, and are about 1" longer than stock. Since i also install truck acc at my shop, i got quite a few of these bolts layin around..This bolt worked great for my install..
