Sorry Trish.

I agree with Eric on the what is this post, from the picture it does look like a capacitor. But I didn't get home til after 12:30 and I didn't get a chance to look at my manual. I'll see what I can find something for you, before I go to the DoJo tonight.

Ya want me to come look at it? I can't say i'll be able to fix it, but i'm sure a second opinion and a fresh perspective would be nice.

Man, you guys still can't tell her what that is. I was just lazy to post it.. but that's the ignition filter. On most 420A's it's found attached to the valve cover. It filters out noise and interference that may run through your ignition system. If you are blowing a fuse it's due to over currence from something being grounded or shorted. You most definately will not get any spark if the ignition filter is not in working order.

Thanks Raizin.

Yes Trish if it's the ignition filter and you disconnct it you're car won't run, if it's blowing fuses your car won't run... botton line... you car won't run. I don't know what they cost but I suggest calling and finding out. Shouldn't be hard to change for you emoji
Hopefully it's the filter and not the wiring leading up to it.

Ok, if this is my problem, then how come it has been unplugged since i had the motor put in? Haven't had any problems like this before, although i did have to replace the ecu and the tps because other problems thinking it was it, and when i replaced them the car worked again, the died, could this have been my problem all along and i just didn't know it.... If its such an important thing why was it unplugged in the first place...

Okay, now I'm going to have to look at it again. Becaus eit this was in line with your inition and it was unplugged the you should never have been able to get a signal to run in the first place. I'll have to pull the manual out and look. You know Trish, you're starting to make me want to come down to TX just to figure this out!

I'll have to look at the wiring diagrams and see if I can figure something out. I still worry about there being a short in the wiring harnass though, in which case it's going to suck to test. Pulling the ECU and checking continuity between a lot of wires. Maybe I can point you in the right direction of what wires to test.

I'll see if I can help out tonight, no promises the way things are going.

well this may be the dumbest post on this thread but it also has an outside chance of solving the problem. that's a 95 talon you drive right? well in my 95 talon that thing used to be mounted on the bolt that comes out of your valve cover and holds your intake on (mine is now somewhere else because i broke the head off that bolt). now i once had a mechanic tell me that was my temp sensor, i'm inclined not to believe that, but none the less i don't think that thing is your problem. does your temp guage work ok? i don't know what your problem is but i'm pretty sure that thing ain't it

temp gauge has been acting weird since this motor was put in, seems to take longer for the gauge to tell me when the car is warm... used to be i started it up and 1 min later it was in the middle and i was used to it now it takes 10 to 20 mins for it to even reach that if anything

The reading you're getting on your temp gauge is coming from a sensor located underneath the thermostat housing.

Trish, you said that you replaced the cam angle sensor but have you replaced the crank angle sensor? The crank sensor detects the cranks position of each cylinder and it converts this into pulse signals. It sends the signals to the ecm and tells the ecm when to send a signal to the coil to fire. If this is bad then you wont have any spark from the coil. Thers is also a top dead center sensor that some of the same functions, also it could cause a problem. I would try the crank sensor, it is posible for them to start to function improperly and cause problems randomly until they decide to give out comepletely. Good luck!

Ok, i was told that we didn't have both a cam angle sensor and a crank angle sensor, that if we have one then there is no use for the other the do the same thing....So where is this sensor located, is it easy to get to? Thanks for all your help....

In response to Reply # 14

The wiring diagrams in Chilton's are too basic to be of any real help. The capisitor you found does come off the wire to the coil. But if your temp gauge has been acting up this could be your problem. Temp sensor is one of the sensors that tells the ECU what to set spark fuel curve etc off of, just a few weeks ago my brothers car died becaause his coolant temp sensor quit on him. So if this is reading wrong that could be your problem. And Raizin is right it's on your thormostat housing.

Trish our cars DO have crank sensors and they are located on the side of the engine below the intake. Go under your car and look just a couple inches directly above the oil filter on the side of the block, you'll see. I've had about 10 of these motors out and layin on a work table, there not hard to find. good luck & keep me updated

Yeah, the crank angle sensor is what was causing my car to stall on me a couple months ago.....Mitsu replaced it and no problems since. I hope this is your problem. By the way, that capacitor thing you guys are talking about.....mine is mounted on the block just above the starter. The earlier ones were on the right side of the valve cover.
