#27518, "finally received MSD coil pack"

There is a problem though. Maybe someone has an answer.

The fit is perfect except for one thing. The ignition plug in on the driver side(only has one)will not fit my plug on my 97 RS. The coil pack plug in is too big. It still has three prongs inside, but is not made for the 97 for some reason.

Question: could this thing be made for a 95-96 only?

Does the 95-96 coil pack have a slightly bigger plug in than the 97-99?

One last curious note: The MDS stamp on the coil pack is facing the back of the car. You would think they would want it facing the front. It almost makes me think it might be for a neon also....not sure though.

Help guys!!!!

found out that there are two coil packs for our cars. #8229 for 95-96 and #8239 for 97-99 models

The 8229 is already shipping from wholesalers. The 8239 is not quite released from MSD. It will be 2-3 more weeks.

8239 is not in the computer system at summit and it not available yet to order. summit did not even know there were going to be two different parts. they thought the 8229 was for 95-99 models. I assumed that the plug was a universal setup or had an adapter for both year model cars. was I wrong....LOL

and I still wait......good thing I had my coil pack overnighted from summit for my drag races and autocross events emoji

We have been shipping the 8229 for a couple of weeks now, out of the 100 or so that we have sold a simple change of the plug is what is needed to use it on the newer cars. Most have been cutting the plug off a car in the junk yard.

thanks Gary!

It looked like an easy swap, but I was not sure if there were any other differences in the coil. I will just put a different plug on mine also.

That was all interesting! But regardless, I ordered mine last night! Hell, another red part under the hood for $70, sounds good to me. Even if it fails to produce a hotter spark, I have 110,000 miles, prolly time to swap it out anyhow. Cheaper than OEM baby! Oh, and another reason I am happy with my 95! Plug and play, SWEET!!
