#27468, "Custom downpipe vs. GS-T downpipe?"

I posted question this in reply to a thread, but it really wasn't answered:

If I were to get the gs-t down pipe and put on an aftermarket muffler (Apexi N1 or Greddy Evo), would that be the about same as gettin the whole aftermarket exhaust system? Is the gs-t downpipe the same as the gs/rs? If not get the gs-t downpipe, I've heard getting custom piping is another alternative to save money. What exactly do I ask the mechanic if I want custom downpiping? Sorry so long. Thanks alot!

GS-T downpipe will not fit a GS or RS. Do you have a turboed 420a?

As was said ^^ the GST downpipe does not fit a NT. There are some guys on here who have been disappointed with aftermarket mufflers, most guys really like the GST muffler. Now, if you are tubro, your best to go with an aftermarket cat-back system about as wide dia. as you can afford. Otherwise don't bother with the downpipe.

So if I want a cat-back exhaust system for an NT, would it even be worth my money? I definitely want a performance muffler (for sound/looks) but I don't want to lose any HP with it. What would you do if you were in my situation? Get the full exhaust or just the muffler? Thanks!

By the way, under the stages section of the 2gnt site, it says:

"Exhaust system from a GS-T is the ideal replacement due to its effectiveness and low cost."

Why would it say that if the downpipe doesn't even fit?

After talking to LoRS4Me, I've decided to get a test pipe and a performance muffler. Probably going with an Apexi N1 115 mm tip. Any other suggestions are welcome.
