#27289, "qustion about header and cat-back exhaust. please help"

what's up
I have a 1995 rs eclipse automatic and I want to buy obx header 4-2-1 and obx full cat-back exhaust system (muffler 4.5 tip) my question is how much horsepower will I get with them together and will I pass emission test and do you think my exhaust is going to be loud with the 4.5 tip cat-back system because, I have exhaust with a 3.5 tip and got pulled over and got a $100 ticket and I was thinking if it's going to be loud with the full cat-back exhaust system with the 4.5 tip that came with the cat-back exhaust, could I change it to another muffler and get the tunable muffler on and not lose any horsepower.

thank you for time
nick

Any aftermarket muffler/exhaust is going to be louder than stock. Whether its loud enough to get a ticket... well that depends on how obnoxious you are being with it, and what kind of mood the cop is I suppose. As far as horsepower goes, you might gain 5 hp if your very lucky, even that is doubtful.

any mods without a carbb sticker in so cal is not legal.. now if u live somewhere else you should be cool.. i believe you will pass the real smog test with a exhaust and catback if they dont care about visual...as far as a catback the bigger the piping size not the tip really the louder it should be..also depends what kind of muffler u r using ... the tip might make a small difference ... i would just get a custom exhaust made...save money like that...

Personally, I would go with a more conservative setup. Our performance problem lies not in getting exhaust out, but rather getting air in. I would get a GS-T muffler, bolt it to the stock piping, and get an Iceman CAI. After that would coem an underdrive pulley. I am kinda making a 2.0 improvement recepie... won't be able to make too much more of this receipe with the 2.4 going in, but I will offer what expertise I have. IM me at NightRacingGod or e-mail me for more info. Ya should meet up with us at Hooter's on Sundays in Warwick...

well for n/a depends whats your goal and how much you want to spend. if you just want some noise and some power i would put the gst stock exhaust on (bolt on), hotshot headers or greddy depends on you, and a intake (cold air) if possible... i really think the upd is over over over over rated! i had it on on n/a i did not feel sh*t like everyone said! when the turbo on my lights started to dim weird noises etc... so i put my stock pulley back on, and no more dimming, noises, and guess what i dont feel a power loss going from the upd, to stock! i believe you can do something else with that money besides the pulley...this is my personal opinion

thanks for the help
so I guess i'm getting the gs-t muffler bolt on, and my question is should I just get the muffler bolt on and will it fit perfect or should I get the full exhaust system of a gs-t and will it fit perfect and should get a test pipe? and gs-t muffler is the same thing as a gs-x right?

If I were to get the gs-t down pipe and put on an aftermarket muffler (Apexi N1 or Greddy Evo), would that be the about same as gettin the whole aftermarket exhaust system? Is the gs-t downpipe the same as the gs/rs? If not get the gs-t downpipe, I've heard getting custom piping is another alternative to save money. What exactly do I ask the mechanic if I want custom downpiping? Sorry so long. Thanks alot!

I jus to got a hotshot header, CATCO cat., vibrant muffler, and compression bent 2.5" piping on my car. VERY loud, forst few days i drove i had a headache and set off a few car alarms. If you want quietness with an aftermarket tone, gs-t exhuast and buy all carb legal stuff. I think greddy headers are carb legal and there are a few high flow cats that are. but good luck on whatever you go with emoji.
