OK OK
so im done with the replacement of the headgasket and timing stuff and clutch. put the engine back in the car and hooked everything back as it was before.
Turned on the car and boom... i hear a loud ticking noise coming for pistons close to the timing belt.
my question is that what is going on is this normal ( before it used to do it but not so loud) what did i do wrong is there a fix the car feel fine it sound weird the exhaust note is a bit more deep but that ticking noise is pretty loud it sounds like a beat up ollddd honda(LOL) anyways what to do..
it sounds like someting is hitting on something else no CEL though?????

Is your car in time? if it's out of time, that may be a valve or 16 getting really friendly with a piston or four..

Check your exaust manifold where it meets the head. You may have an exaust leak, which will "tick" when the engine is running. Be sure you have your timing right too, check your timing marks.

ok sorry about the long topic title but i was very frustrated and well what can i say

ok my car is not out of time i checked the timing marks and the are well lined up
i drove the car today a couple miles and it feels great it accelerates much better than before and it feels awsome the exhaust note like i said sounds way better
now if it is an exhaust leak ( i admit having problems with the header bolts as in that one or maybe two are striped...ouch, maybe its this) but can i use the car until i get a tap kit( the thingy to make threads) and bigger bolts or should i just wait until i get it..
thanks...
oh one more thing hafter i stoped te car and turned it off a lot of smoke was coming out of the tranny side (i did spilled a lot of tranny fluid when changing it) is this normal that lots of smoke come out of the drivers side whell..??
thanks a bunch guys
and sorry bout the long topic ill never do it again :'( emoji

You may want to check your lifters. If for some reason the hydraulic lifters are not getting oil - they wouldn't be adjusting the valve lash and the cam would be "slapping" the lifter every time it came around (you would have huge valve lash). If this were the case - the engine would most likely be pretty underpowered - and you said that it was accelerating pretty good, so that may not be it. Just something I thought about.

Does the ticking increase with RPM's? Does it get louder/softer as you accel/decel.

I agree with these guys - My initial reaction was that your timing is off and valve meet piston = loud ticking. Let us know how things turn out or if you have more quesitons/information.

Actually, mine made a loud ticking noise like that at idle, but above 2000 rpms it went away. Turned out my tensioner went bad and it was the belt slappin around down by the water pump. Could be the same for you!

SOME ticking is normal. When I put mine back together after my HG the exaust tone was a little deeper. (because of the better compression I think) and there was a little valve ticking. It was right on the pass. side of the engine as well. The engine has not had oil in the head and valve train for a while it's natural to have SOME ticking. My timing was not off either but the tick went away. How long has this been happening?
