I am in a huge bind, I dont feel that I have the money to put a turbo in, 2200 for stage 1 plus 1200 for bottom end kit....I was wondering what HP levels I could look foward to by working NT and I would like some feed back from people whom have taked either route. If you have views of certain aftermarket products please tell me about them!! I want to explore all my options!! emoji

hmm.. the old NA beast discussion.. i wont tell you to boost it (which you should if you want serious power emoji).. but there have been a number of people trying to build all motor beasts and have failed to reach their goals (or havent hit it yet). i do know that 200hp all motor would be a pretty good goal to try and hit. in fact, skrilla has taken a challenge on making 240 being NA.. but he does have the 2.4 and a couple tricks up his sleeve.

be prepared to spend lots of money with not so great gains.. exhaust, cai, headers, port and polish (tb and intake mani), cam gears, cams, udp, power pulleys (if they exist), rods, pistons, higher compression, 3 angle valve job, mil the head, new clutch, gauges, safc, proper tunning... and the list goes on

^^what once was^^

^^what is now.. and permanently^^

A proper head package is where it's at for NA power, they don't cost as much as a stage one turbo kit, but can yeild as much power gains if done right, but alas I don't think there is a good enough one made yet for the Eclipse.

in any case, if you do a stage 1 turbo.. you don't need the bottom end kit (yet) so maybe the turbo will look more appealing since that drops a grand or so off of your expected price.

yea, what he said. you dont even need the bottom end kit, but be sure to do a compression test if u do decide to turbo. That will tell you whether or not you actually need to rebuild.

The dude specifically said without doing turbo.

Best bet is to rebuild with 12.5 compression and strong rods and get a good ignition system so you can time it so you won't blow up. Howell has a good head package with cams/cam gears and some of the PT cruiser stuff that will net you some nice gains and a good street port/polish job on the head would be nice too. Don't go too crazy with exhaust or you'll lose your low end torque too, but you need a smoothly flowing air system so a p&p intake, 56mm TB (any bigger and air velocity slows down and you actually don't make as much power on an NA car) and a good header would be nice. Look into some injectors that flow slightly more like the Accel, and you'll have to tune a lot of stuff to make peak power, so an SAFC might come in handy. Maybe nitrous if you want some fun.

Essentially, your up a creek in the import world unless you've got lots of money or are a world reknowned mechanic. Turbo is way cheaper than all that I just wrote for you but then the reliability and maintenance issues may make it not worth it. I know they'll flame me for this, but if you want a car with power, go snag a GST/GSX and drive that baby stock or save your money and buy something new with a strong engine already. Thats the advice I gave myself and I'll be sporting a 350Z in a couple years. That's my 2 cents.
