I noticed that the egr valve itself has only one vacuum line going to it from the egr transducer. When vacuum is applied to the valve it opens. So I simply pulled the short little vacuum hose that goes from the transducer to the valve. I was hoping to avoid a CEL by not unplugging the transducer but I got one anyway. I put a vacuum cap on the valve and another on the coresponding port on the transducer. The transducer still has the vacuum line from the intake manifold and the ECU plug.

I was wondering if anybody else has tried this method to get the egr to stop working and not get a CEL. Do I have to split off the vacuum line from the intake manifold and connect both ports on the transducer to a vacuum source?

The fault lies in the fact that the EGR reports to the ECU. If the MAP sensor sees vacuum, but the EGR isn't reporting that it is opening, then the ECU throws a code for a busted up EGR setup. One way around this would be to emulate the signal from the EGR setup saying that all is peachy keen whenever some sensor sees vacuum.
