I finally decided to buy some rubber coupling and later get blue silicone. The foam on the bypass had faded and broke off. Then, today, pulling it off, it came off in PIECES!!!! The car unds so much more aggressive now without a bypass valve, and it feels like top end is better as well. You don't want a bypass valve.

If you live in a wet state I wouldnt even have a full CAI, the diff between the shorty and full is so little anyway. Ive got the iceman and I never use the long extension, actuall I noticed it slowed me down. maybe something with losing too much air velocity or something throught longer pipe/more bends etc..
My personal experiences sucked with it (literally). It fell apart into 2 sections and the foam tore in several spots. Keep in mind my intake is bolted in with all brackets and very stable. After removing the bypass valve and wasting $40 I noticed a slight pull in accerlation gains....I cut a section of my cone filter off to use as a connector between the two cut pieces of my CAI. What a difference, in my honest opinion. I would personally not tell someone to purchase one whether it works or not, air is lost and power is as well. Living in Texas, we do not get that much rain to worry about hydrolock. If you're driving through a puddle of water deeper than a foot, I think you got other issues to worry about on your car.....
^ that is a product review i wrote on my site..... i hate the fuckers. totally.

I installed the stupid valve about 3 days ago, and my result can be compared to when I had stock intake on. I definetely regret putting it on, and wish I knew the consequence before I did. If you do intend to get CAI w/ bypass valve, DON'T. Get short air intake, or better yet ram air.
By the way, does anyone know a good method to cover that 2" gap that is in my intake? I will probably only put the intake on when it rains or something. TIA.

The main thing is watch for puddles. It rained hard here today, and I drove it kinda hard b/c the extra top end feel it gave, and the better sound. The sound is much better. Top end pull seems better too. I just watched for puddles, then slowed down. I would rather be careful than take a chance on sucking foam or plastic into my engine. The outer foam was dry rotted I guess, and was tearing. I pulled it off easily. Then, removing the bypass all together, it was cracked apparently and just broke off into 2 pieces and half was still connected to the pipe connected to the TB. Then that piece came apart. What a rip off. The inner foam was actually still in there good. I went ahead and pulled it out just to test the durability of it. The inner foam was the only durable part. And the rubber flapper things were fine. Other than that, it sucked.

I went to a hardware store and bought a 2" plumbing coupling with 2 hose clamps on it for like $5. It works. I wanna order a blue one from hose techniques to match my hose kit.

I just did a search and found this topic from a few days ago. I was just thinking about getting a bypass valve b/c someone recommended it (I live in PA), but I am getting the feeling that it's a bad idea! Any other opinions?
