I had the exhaust replaced on my 1998 Eagle Talon ESI and found it to kill my horsepower.
The cat was replaced with a high-flow cat and the pipe from this point back to the magnaflow racing muffler was opened up to 2.75 or 3 inch stainless steel. The problem is that i lost all of my low end torque and I have a real nasty flapping-bumble bee-weed eater sound once i step on the accelerator. I think the sound is related to the high-flow cat because when i just had the race muffler on I never heard this sound. As far as i can tell my car is slower now cause i can't keep up with a stock ESI. Top end i can destroy an ESI but i really can't go 80-100mph all the time.
If anyone knows what the solution to this problem is please let me know cause i want to at the least get my horsepower back.

For one thing, you can stop running 98 octane fuel. The Jet chip you're running is totally worthless. We have found a long time ago that even on a dyno they show zero performance gains. they may be fine for some cars, but you wasted $300 for yours.

If I'm reading what you wrote correctly you have 2 3/4 or 3 inch piping on your exhaust system. I think that might be overkill on a NA Eclipse 2 1/2" is probably the biggest dia you should go IMO( I might be wrong though).

no, you're right. 3" is way too big for a 2.0l NA. The general consensus is 2.25" is the ideal for flow while maintaining torque. 2.5" may be good on a _fully_ built motor, but very few people if any are at that level.
Killing low end torque will make your car slower. If you can't get it moving off the line, you will pay the penalty all the way down the strip. And around town will suck. Remember, the S2000 is an ~11sec 0-60 car if you shift gears before the vtec switchover @6000rpm (or thereabouts).
On an aside, the sad thing is a lot of people I see driving that car probably never run it hard enough to get the real performance out of it. I had a friend with a VTEC Accord who shifted well before 5000, and wondered why his car was kinda slow. I guess he learned from his pappy that revving an engine high is really bad for it. Well, it was, if your car dated from before, say, the late 1980s. Things are different, and better, today.

Ok,
Just one question? The Jet upgrade says to run at least 91 octane, do you have any experience with dropping a "upgraded" chip back to regular octane fuel? I did some checking on the pipe diameter and it is 2.25 inches (guess i got off track when i first posted).

Pipe is to big, but our cars cat. flows just fine. Turbo or not most stick with the stock cat. If your pipe is to large and the exaust flows to fast you lose back pressure, and there goes hp and tourque. An engine is balanced to run in sinque with everything. You change one and it will affect others. When you change something you want to get the hp, but try to keep things within balance
