well i did the afx udp about a year ago and of course the belts started to squeak and shriek soon after. i adjusted, lubed and everthing, but it always came back. finally i changed them, cuz the bando's are supposed to suck, but the squeak is still there. they're gates belts. i also cleaned all the pullys before i put on the new belts. anyway, the squeak is coming from the ps/ac belt, and seems to be caused by the inside(right when facing front of car) wall of the pully well on the udp. the belt rubs against it at the place where it "gets on" on the pully. i found this out by slightly lubing that side wall of the pully and the noise went away for a couple min. does anyone else have this same problem? it's soooooo damn annoying and makes the car sound like crap. i don't want to constantly be spraying belt lube on it, b/c it drys them out and is really annoying to have to always do. the pully seems to be on all the way, b/c the alt belt makes no noise and looks like it's perfectly in line. i'm really stumped on how to get it to stop. it's really pissin' me off. on a side note, when i tightened up the belts i noticed that both the alt and the tension pully on the ps belt are at their limit. they're both maxed out in tension, and the belts are tight, but that doesn't seems normal, and yes, i got the right size belts :p . my last resort to get this to stop would be to grease that right wall of the pully, but i don't really like that idea too much, and would rather fix it the right way...a permanent fix. thank fellas

the normal belts have 5 "ribs" There have been people post on this board that have put on 4 "rib" belts of the same length and have stopped the squeak... this would also work with your theory of the belts rubbing on one side of the pulley. Good luck.

good idea....so the people that have done this., i assume you just place the belt all the way to the left side of the pully and leave one groove free? is this a design problem with the afx, or is it just not on all the way?

a 4 ribbd belt will slip across da ribs once in awhile (know from experience)
u could try a shorter belt... like 2 inches less circumference... to have a lil more play w/the tensioner...
u can also loosen the tensioner(so it has lotsa extra room for adjustment) and loosen up the p/s where it mounts, and wedge a socketwrench inbetween the exhaust mani and the mountin bracket, and pull on the wrench to move the whole assembly out and apply tension on da belt...(dun break it )and tighten up the bolts... then u may be able to find more room to tension the belt.... u may have to turn the engine over a lil to line up the holes in the pulley and the bolts, and dun forget about the one u have to go behind the downpipe w/lotsa extensions (unless u have a header)...

If you want to make sure that the its on all the way - use an impact wrench. I set the torque trim pretty high - I'm not too sure about the exact setting but I think its somewhere between 150-200. Every hammer should tighten up the bolt just a bit, so the socket slowwwwly turns. Keep a close eye on it. When the bolt stops turning, stop hammering. Thats how I do it anyway - no squeaks here.
