Ok first of all I am a professional wrestler so I do ALOT of traveling around I have a 99 RS AT with about 120K on it...so naturally problems happen...but for the past two months I have had this squeaking problem which I assumed was the p/s belt and I had it checked numerous times and they said it was ok it kept getting worse...well I went to a wrestling show saturday and it got really bad when we got held up on the interstate...then my battery light just came on but nothing happened other than the squeaking...well...I knew I had to keep going because I was booked in the main event at the show...so I did the show got there fine besides the noise...and on the way home I live in Dothan...the show was up near Huntsville, AL and I got about 40 miles from Birmingham then all of the sudden I was going about 65 I hear a popping sound and my car revs all the way to like 5500 rpm and it stays there and it won't shift gears...drive for about 5 more minutes like that...then the headlights dim...the battery light back on...the car just runs out of power...pull over on the interstate...and bit by bit it runs out of power...I turned it off..put hazards on...and when you want the police to come and help you (not harass you) they never pass by...so I had to end up walking back to the exit to get a phone to call 911...and get them out there it takes them a hour...but I get it towed to the motel...stay the night...get up in the morning by the way the car wouldn't even turn over so I think its the alternator but I also think there is something wrong with the transmission...but I take it to the shop they look at it...and find that the alternator belt is not there and that the alternator itself is very loose and almost disconnected...so they get a new belt put it on...tighten it...and put the alternator back on tight...so the car is ready to go full of power it didn't have before they tested it...and it was ready..the alternator problem was fixed...so I hauled ass and thought it would be alright...well it did get me home that was good but I had to work with it...its like this sometimes it would like just stay in it seemed like the first gear staying up to 5500 to 6000 rpm for a while...sometimes it would actually shift going down to about 2300 rpm...this is about 65 mph on the interstate...it would shift and not shift...then I got to Montgomery and another problem found itself all of the sudden the speedometer would then work and not work...work and not work...and when I was stopped at light the idle would go down to like about 100-200 rpm...and it shut off several times...I then figured I could keep it in neutral and rev it up to keep it from shutting off...it did that another two hours till I got to my house...so the alternator it seems is fixed but now there is something wrong with the transmission and speedometer it seems...I had a similar problem with the transmission before where it wouldn't shift all at and stayed about 4-5K rpm and it was like a automatic transmission computer problem of some kind and we got it fixed...I think Mitsu puts warranties on their parts they do...I don't remember how long ago it was...but I wonder if it is the same problem only difference is...the first time when I had it fixed it didn't shift at all...now it does sometimes and sometimes it don't....I need to figure out what is going and need to get it fixed because I have shows that I have to do next week and have to go to work also...any ideas? Post here or email me BookForsaken01@AOL.com

Damn, sounds like you have a 1G heheh
I have no idea what's wrong, but that's something I'd take it to the dealer for. They can do sensor checks, and see if they can pull any info from the TCU/ECU.

just replace your alternator i have seen auto cars not shift out of a gear when the alternator dies because the comp doesn't have enough power to know what to do this happpened to my dads saturn almost exactly the same thing except his went dead and stayed in overdrive and when we pulled off the freeway his 0-60 was like 5 min replaced the alternator the next morning and it was all better
1996 Eagle Talon NA Stock except for ghetto wheels that came on it

maybe check these things --1.see what kind of voltage you are getting while the car is idleing (should be at about 14v )2.check battery cables and battery( you wanna have good contact points)3.make sure your spark plugs are firmly on coil and spark plug 4. get your codes read (to see if a sensor has failed or is on its last leg)5. your ecm/ecu might be shot hope this was'nt too muddled

Well I had to stay overnight in a hotel because the car wouldn't even turn luckily there was a truck maintenance shop right by the hotel so they ended up jumping it off to get it over there and they checked it out...the alternator belt wasn't there and the alternator was loose and so they replaced with a new belt and tightened the alternator on there...and yeah they tested it and it does 14...so thats fixed its just the speedometer doesn't work and sometimes it shifts sometimes it don't...when it does shift then the speedometer works...so I will get satan to check the speed sensor and do tests on the computer and see what they say...I guess that is all I can do right now

Just a update had chrysler do a system check and it was the transmission output speed sensor...bought the part for $28.98...and my uncle who has alot of experience with chrysler motors is going to put it on tomorrow...that scared me though thought I had to replace my transmission or the computer
