The Neon writeup says to use one from a 98. Talon95Stang's writeup doesn't make any mention of year. I've tried searching the archive posts with no luck. Does anyone know the year range for the Cherokee 6cyl automatics that share this TB? Are there any other models to get it from? TIA.

...but I know you can use as low as '96 and up to '00. It must be from the 4L straight six (242ci). Either automatic or manual is fine (I verified it). It can also be from the Jeep Wranger 4L.

Skrilla may be one up on me, but I have a write-up sitting here in front of me from who knows where and it says any auto 90's jeep - 4l straight six. If he verified the manual thing I guess it shouldn't make a difference. If you get the chance post the neon site address. I'd be interested in comparing that to the info I have.

techboy - The Neon link that I have is written by Carlos Crescioni. In the writeup, Carlos claims that the manual versions are 56mm. He doesn't say anything about it being any 90's auto jeep though, so it sounds like you have a different writeup.

DONT DO IT... Everyone who has attempted this have come away with a messed up engine except a couple. I got away pretty clean, but it wont idle correctly, everything is sealed, I got a new spring about 4x the strength of the other one, so no vaccum leaks are occuring, well except in my intake manifold, but that was happening before hand. Just bored yours out, I cant tell you that enough. BORE YOURS OUT. The gains were pretty good with exhaust, cat, and intake only tho

I've heard of one problem where some guy pooped his plug. I don't know what he was using for a plug, but I do know you shouldn't use something that could get sucked in. I was thinking about tapping it out and screwing in a plug.
You said that you can't get it to idle right. Whats happening? Is it idling too high like there is a vaccum leak? You already have a vaccum leak that you know about. Maybe the ill-effect of your leak is just amplified with the new TB? There's a pretty big difference in the idle inlet size.
I don't know Matt. I really want this mod but I don't want to screw up my motor. Someone must have gotten it to idle properly. Could you tell me about any other problems that people are having with the conversion, other than the spring?

i really dont think that a 60mm tb is necessary unless you are boosting or did an engine swap (ahem, 2.4)... i think the 54,55, and the 56 are fine... unless you are pushing more power, 60 is overkill in my mind... as well as others

Metal Jim - this is about the 6th time this TB issue has come up in the past 2 months. I am starting to have 2nd thoughts myself. Everyone I have read anything from has had trouble with the spring. My thought is - pick up a Jeep TB and a spare Eclipse TB at the yard and work with the part from the junkyard. That way if it doesn't work out you still have your orginal stock to fall back on

...which is why I used the Jeep spring and not the 2GNT TB spring. They are different in tension. I haven't tried the 2gnt spring but it could be used if it was wound enough (it's no simple task), but you may run the risk of losing tensile strength. Also bolting the TB to the manifold isn't accomplished by modifying one hole either.

Thats great info about the spring Skrilla. YOU DA MAN!!! I know there's quite a bit of work to do on the new TB, but I wanted to make a point about the plug because I know some members have had problems with it. I'm not sure how, but I must have missed the posts about problems with the spring. 2 points for you!
Mike, I definately want want to push more power. My cams seem hungry, even though they're only Gude regrinds(I guess I got lucky ). The stock intake manifold won't flow 60mm - I think the port is somewhere around 56-57 or something like that. That should be plenty big for my current setup. However, I also want to get an extra intake manifold(at least the upper section) to play around with the intake size, just in case 56-57 isn't enough. If port matching the mani is too much air(very likely), then I can always put the original one back on, and shelve the modified one...until I get a turbo.
Chris, I'm planning on gettting both TBs to do it(and an intake mani). About getting together - you have mail.
...one the 2L TB after air leaves the port it is 52mm. On the Jeep "60"mmm, it leaves it at 56-57mm or so. Also the manny could be ported to allow the bigger one. I removed some of the lip on the 60mm which increased it to about 59mm. Makes me wonder though how big the opening is, I think it's closer to 61 or maybe 62.
One last thing, you are still lucky with your GUDE regrinds LOL!!
