#25477, "Engine Swaps"

Go here..

http://www.asog.net/bbs2/viewtopic.php?topic=22735&forum=10&44
http://www.2gnt.com/dcforum/DCForumID13/5359.html

Ok, let me get this straight first..
I've been reading some earlier posts..
And I saw that guy with the V6 3.0L engine from a Galant...

First of all, I know this isn't the same 3.0L engine from the 3000GT, does anyone know about it?

Second, does anyone know the engine code for this V6 3.0L engine?

Third...
Can you please tell me if I have this right..
2.0L I4 (duh, our car)
2.4L I4 (in the Neon R/T, and some other cars) (please tell me some other cars)
2.5L V6 (in the avengers?)
3.0L V6 (in the galants)
Does anyone know these engine codes?

Fourth...
The 2.0L is used in the Avenger right?
Also, the 2.5L V6 is used in the Avenger..
So the 2.5L V6 would bolt-on into our car..
But this guy said he bolted-on a 3.0L V6 into his Avenger, replacing the 2.5L...
Seeing some of the pics of the engine, it is very similar to whats under our hoods..
So my question is...
Can we use the 3.0L V6 into our car?
And would it be bolt-on?

Props to:
HeartOfDarkness - For having the balls to ask the question that made me want to ask this question
mcgyvr - For the link (above at the top of the page)

Thanks
And sorry for making this sooo long

The 2.4L engine, comes from cloud cars, years 1995 -1999. Also, they come from minivans, like the caravan.

I think the neon R/T is a SOHC 2.0L. but i am not sure.

The RT is a DOHC like ours but the head flows backwords.

I don't think you'll fit a V6 in our engine bay.

No room.

If the v6 is used in the Avenger, it should bolt in. But, i don't know if it would fit. Also, you would need the computer for sure. And maybe the harness.

BTW, thanks for the props emoji

That would be cool. An eclipse with a rodeo engine.
Check the deminsions on the v6, and see if it fits.

I posted this about a week ago:
http://www.2gnt.com/dcforum/DCForumID19/3921.html
same basic topic asking about the 3.0L swap.

Avenger
2.5L V6 (6G73):
Horsepower: 163hp @ 5500 rpm
Torque: 170ft-lbs. @ 4350 rpm

3G Eclipse, Stratus R/T, Galant
3.0L V6 (6G72):
Horsepower: 200hp @ 5500 rpm
Torque: 205ft-lbs. @ 4500 rpm

Diamante, Montero
3.5L V6 (6G74):
Horsepower: 205hp @ 5000 rpm
Torque: 231ft-lbs. @ 4000 rpm

From what I understand the 6G73 and the 6G72 are identical except for the location of a sensor or two and the obvious displacement difference. I hear that the 6G74 is identical to the 6G72 except the deck may possibly be taller.

I’m told the engine bays in the Avenger and Eclipse are slightly different in terms of length. However one of the guys on the ASOG board managed to swap the whole front end with that of an Eclipse. He didn’t mention having to move anything. He said it all the sheet metal just bolted on.

The engine in the 3000GT is also a 6G72, but is mounted in the opposite direction. The same difference between how the 420A and the 4G63 are mounted. But the SL and VR-4 use a DOHC configuration while all the ones I listed above are SOHC.

It is possible to get the 6G73 into an eclipse:

How much work is required? I don’t think anyone really knows except for whomever did that swap. I would think it may be difficult even if the engine bolts right in because the ECUs are different.

Would the 6G-series fit in our car?

Also, would the Diamante/Montero motor fit in our car?..

I know you would have to change the tranny, so would there AWD (4WD) tranny fit in our car?

Knowing this is a dumb question, would the tranny bolt-in into our car, without cutting or fabrication?

Thanks

So is this bolt-on?

No-one has answered this question yet...

Which ones are bolt-on into our (2GNT) cars?

Thanks

I would have to say no, because the engine is a Mitsubishi. Our engines are from Chrysler. So, you would need the engine, trans, computer, wiring harness, and a lot more things. I think the engine would bolt in.

There is no easy bolt-in engine swap for our cars.

The easiest would be the 2.4L 420A. However from what I've heard it requires the engine mounts to be modified and you also have to modify the accesory brackets for clearence. You have to ask Skrilla since I think he's the only one that's done it.

The 6G engines will fit into our engine bays. Do they bolt in? You will definetly need a diffrent ECU. Maybe try asking around the ASOG board and see if anyone has done a V6->I4 or I4->V6 swap.

...is as "easy" as bolting in a 4G-63T. The mounts are not the same. After the second gen Neon the R/T comes in 2 flavors. They are both 150HP but the 1G uses a DOHC engine and the 2G uses a SOHC to produce the same amount of power. The 2.4L was never available in the Neon until the SRT-4(which is also blown)

You said the "6G72" is in the 3G eclipse..

But the 6G72 is also in the 3000GT...

so are you saying the 3G eclipse and the 3000GT has the same engines?

If so, why does the 3000GT have more power?

Also, can you fit a 3000GT motor in a 3G eclipse?

And I'm not trying to be all smart, but no-one said it clearly...
Say either...

"Yes the 6G series motors are bolt-on in our cars, and you can bolt these in..."

or

"No the 6G series motors are not bolt-on in our cars, and you cannot bolt these in..."

The 3000GT block is the same block as the 3G Eclipse V6 except like I said before the 3000GT is DOHC in SL (218hp) and VR-4 (320hp) while the 3G Eclipse is SOHC. Usually DOHC configuration allows for better flow in the head.

I think that if you were to use the motor mounts from the avenger it should work, but I can gaurantee you everything is not just gonna bolt it. It is going to take some fabrication for everything to work the way yiou want it to.

Why are we complaining about swaps?..
considering the Honda boys have to change everything..
from the wiring harness, tranny, axles, ecu and all the goodies...

Just wondering

Which ones are two inches longer ours or there's? (Probably ours)..

Also, that 2 inches really won't matter..

And, I heard this guy did "bolt-on" conversion of a Eclipse/Talon front-end onto their Avenger, so wouldn't it be the same length?..

I might have to goto some parking lot and get a measuring tape and measure a Avenger to settle it emoji

But I know not to go against Skrilla cuz he's a smart kid..

Thanks

To clear this up somewhat..

V6 from avenger will fit in the 2gnt, but you'll have to move your rad fans.. i suggest some good blow-through ones..

As for engine compartment size.. Avenger is bigger by about 2-3".. i used to know the guy that did the eclipse clip on the avenger.. long story, but he's not around anymore..

You'll need a full wiring harness + pcm from an avenger/sebring v6.

I'd suggest going with the 3.0L block and lower intake manifold + injectors/fuel rail from the new eclipse and the upper intake manifold from the 2.5Lv6 in the avenger (uses map sensor).

I think RPW in australia has a 3.5L stroker kit for the 3L..

If you manage to fit a diamante 3.5L in, it can be stroked to 3.8L by the same company.. check with robert on the ASOG board. he knows the lowdown on the v6.

To use a 3g eclipse 5sp tranny you'll have to make a crank trigger wheel to accomidate the crank angle sensor.. otherwise it's all bolt up.

After that's done.. might as well toss the stock ecu, throw in a haltech and a big turbo or two..

Think a 3.0L supra is wild making 1000hp??? add almost another liter.. emoji

who needs 10000000rpm when you got torque emoji

I have pics of the front clip for those interested.

Yea it was a talon front end, but he had to cut out the front rad supports and move them closer to the firewall to get the fenders to fit. Basically he shrunk the engine bay a few inches to make it work.

Would I need different motor mounts other than the ones I have, if I swapped in the 3.0L V6 6G72?
Thanks

You will need the avenger/sebring v6 motor mounts. Although they bolt in teh same location on the frame, the mounts are a bit different.

Also.. incase people are wondering.. you'll want to use the ECU/wiring harness from a 95 avenger/sebring v6 instead of the wiring/ecu from a 3g eclipse.. main reason being that a map sensor is easier to tune for boost than a MAF is emoji

another thing.. you'll need the v6 tranny if your goin automatic.. the bell housings on the v6 and I4 are different.. you can't use a F5MC1 tranny on the v6 either. You need hte 3g eclipse 5sp, or the chrysler a604 for the avenger/sebring.

As far as the 3L block goes. it's identical to the 2.5L block.. the crank is the exception.. it's stroked to provide 3L.
