#25030, "tranny/clutch question"

I've been having a problem where when I'm running the car hard and go to 3rd it grinds like a motherf$#$#. This crap just happened to me again on the way home while racing a hoopty ass Civic. Long story short I lost out on that one(having heavy stereo equipment in the trunk doesn't help either). My question is what can the problem be? Other than that the car drives fine. It only does it if I'm really hard on it.Sometimes it acts like it doesn't want to go in first from a stop but after I push on the stick the 2nd time it falls in fine. The car is a 97GS with 118,000 on the stock clutch and tranny. I know this probably doesn't make a difference since it's been doing this for awhile but the tranny fluid was change around 1500-3000 miles ago. Thanks in advance for any help.

Doesnt sound like anything to worry about. Our cars can just kinda be bitches to shift sometimes. Especially at higher RPM's. Unless its doing under normal driving conditions, I doubt its really a problem, just gotta push that clutch down deep and push it into gear quick.

Now see that's the problem. I've been through this several times before and I knew to keep the clutch to the floor until I felt the stick go in gear and it still grinded like I was trying to shift without using the clutch. Does anyone else have any views/ideas??

My second gear grinds like a biatch, but that could be cuz I blew the synchro, that will usually do it. Now I have to shift to neutral, wiat a second for the rpm to drop down to 4k (where 2nd will be at 40mph) then shift into second to keep it from grinding at all... Double clutching during racing helps not a single bit, as opposed to what Vin Diesel said (could have atleast made FnF make sense). Makes civics and mustangs have a chance to me, I acctually lost to a v6 yesterday. Just take it in and have ur synchro checked, cuz the grinding sounds like that could be it. and about your first gear, there is a forum here on it http://www.2gnt.com/dcforum/DCForumID13/5315.html go there. Peace.

~It has been a very sad week for me. I lost to my girlfriends 3g RS. It is auto. Mind you my ignition is out on my #2 coil pack, my second gear synchro is out so I gotta double clutch, my compression is down about half in one of my cylinders, and my MAP s
