#24839, "i think my motor is dead now, help me out"

so i had the spun bearing. knew about it and drove on it with 20-50 and some stabilizer. ok. now today coming home from my graduation it started on this other noise. it's a percussion sorta hitting sound. not really a rattle. more of a knock but it's quick and repetitive. i'm thinking that the piston is floating up and smashing into open valves. ca anyone give me some info as to if having a spun bearing will/would eventually lead to this sorta problem the bearing has been this way for about 2 thousand miles.

OH SHIT! STOP DRIVING YOUR CAR! What's going to eventually happen (if it hasn't)is the rod is gonna go through the block.(that may be what you're hearing) Either that, or something in regard to your oil. Each mile you drive it your going to fuck up more things... which in return makes your rebuild more expensive. Is your oil light lit?

Sounds like a spun bearing....your rod is going to go boom.

TuffRS you will know if you have this problem. You prob just have some ticking.

oil light is fine. i knew about the bearing this is just on top of that. there's no noise at idle which makes me think the bearing itself isn't all that bad. the noise comes into play at 2 thousand rpms than fades and comes back at 3 thousand. it won't do it under WOT or even half throttle but at light throttle it will rap alot, not heavy though. than as i was coming home today it started doing this and it wouldn't let me do more than 45 mph, like when my timing belt blew apart.

You got spun bearing. Reason why it wont happen at WOT or only happens at certain rpm is that depending on the load in your engine, the rod is pressed against the crank enough that it wont move around.

Dont drive it, you may end up with a grenated rod. Want to see what happens with a granated rod? Here look at this:

Oh sorry...not that one lol!

(do you know what those bits are? See the piston on the right?)

(here's the remainder of the piston after the rod exploded)

(try to bore that one out!)

(that's where the rod tried to go through at 3,500 rpm)

So next time you drive around like that, remember...its a tickin time bomb!
