It's a MISFIRE code, it's flashing cause it's seeing MISFIRE. Change your plugs and wires.

could it have anything to do with my cam issues of late? it only came up after i shimmed the cams. could a valve be being kept open or closed a tad to long cause that code? plugs were changed about a month or two ago, and wires are only about a year old.

I don't see it being the cams, 43 is for spark related problems. When you check the codes does it flash once or twice?

Ya I get that flashing CEL once every few days at idle at a stoplight (when the idle gets real bad). It's always code 43. It only comes up with 43 once though when I check the codes. I just ignore it. I've already tried changing the plugs and the wires to no avail. It's fine most of the time, and also fine if I turn on the A/C at idle to raise the rpm's more so the idle is not as rough.

I had a flashing 43 when I blew my headgasket. I had very low compression in cylinder #3. But I dont think thats your problem. I thought a flashing CEL means that the problem needs to be addressed imediatlely.

it only flashes occasionaly when im at a light or idling. when i check codes, it only comes up once. would it help to get the individual P code, (whatever you call it). our CEL list has individual P code numbers for our CEL 43. would that be able to narrow it down a bit?

If you've done checks on plugs and wires, next check your coil. Then onto fuel.

Marcus, your could possibly be related to your exhaust problem... if there is enough of a restriction in a runner or the system over all I could see the possibility of a misfire. I'm curious now as to how bad the damage is... if you can I'd like to see a pic.

Una salus victus.

Michael, I don't have a picture of the piping, but it was not bent by the dog incident at all. I replied in the other post about the Hotshot header. I had no CEL after the header incident either, so I am pretty sure that my CEL is due to the ported and milled head, which I got about 6 months after the dog incident.

BTW, I heard that the turbo 4g63 guys get that CEL code a lot with cams.

Marcus, how is your timing with the lowered height on the head? Have you tried adjusting your gears to set things back to a true TDC. of course then there is always me thinking they ported too much, but who knows.. it's late emoji

I tried a variety of settings and the idle seems to just get worse as I deviate from 0-0. I assume I have to advance the gears a bit to make up for the milled head right? Oh well, I give up. Other people i've talked to with a milled head also said they had a rough idle, and I think having the auto tranny makes it worse.
