Over the weekend I went to the track and for some reason ended up shredding my power steering belt and nearly the alternator belt. Well, now this morning (Tuesday 6-4) I started my car in the morning and when I came out I heard a slight ticking sound coming from the engine bay. So I popped the hood and listened and it seemed like it was coming from the top...I'm not sure exactly where because it's kinda faint, but you can tell there is a definate tick. I'll try and do a compression test tonight, but anyone know what this might be? I have a HRC Stage 2 running 5 psi, and no problems thus far besides the power steering belt (this being the second time it's shredded). Also, anyone know why the power steering belt is so prone to shredding? And who else has that problem? Is it just too much power? Any help would be appreciated...I'm afraid I may have to do a rebuild or something this summer. What a bummer, then I'll have to get a FMIC and push the boost up to 12 psi. Heh...

Both my power steering belts that were shredded were both under boost from the turbo. Is it just because of too much power or what? What can I do to prevent that because it sucks having to replace it so much.

Ticking sounds like a valve, you may have damaged one. Also look for an exhaust leak, they tend to sound exactly like a valve sometimes, and lastly, when its dark out, crank your car and spray a little salt water on the plug wires, if they are arcing, it will look like 4th of july and the could be the ticking.

I already know I have a minor exhaust leak at the beginning where my downpipe connects. How do I fix that? Replace all the bolts or something? Or get a new spacer or what?

it could also just be the injectors, they make ticking sounds

injector ticking is too quite to noticably hear when the car is running though, buy a new exhaust gasket. Bolts are fine I am sure. That is probably where the sound comes from

it could that exhuast leak. I remember when my manifold gasket blown it was making a ticking sound like valves. But my valves were fine when I cracked open my cover. replaced my exhaust manifold gasket and I don't notice any ticking anymore emoji

I **always** hear the injectors ticking at idle. Scares me sometimes, so I dig out the mechanic's stethoscope and find that it is just the injectors, and go for a drive and forget that I doubted my machine.

does the ticking of the injectors always happen? Does it go away after you drive a ways or anything? My engine bay is also ticking and it bugs the hell outta me since i am hearing all sorts of new sounds from my car.

The ticking only seems to be at idle. I haven't heard it recently, but when I WAS hearing it it would go away after the car warmed up. It was kinda weird. Also, right now I am running without my PS belt as it shredded at the track and now whenever I start my car up there's a VERY loud squealing coming from the engine bay. I've had my dad stand there and try to see what it is, but we can't seem to find it. I don't think it's the alternator belt....my dad thinks it may be coming from the timing belt or the cam gears or something. It's really weird. It only does it when I start my car...and sometimes if I shut the car off and come back out and start it while it's still warm it doesn't squeal. Anyone know what that might be?
