ok last week i went to install my cam gears and i did everything step by step lined everything up did everything i was supposed to do. Started her up and everythiing seemed fine. half a mile down the road she died and wouldn't start back. stopped and opened the hood turned the crank and the gears were still in line. My best guess is the belt jumped a tooth or two. Anyway my timing was so far off that it wouldn't start and figuring that it wouldn't cost more than 150 to have it put back in time I called the shop. they came and got it (gotta love triple a) and looked at it then called me and told me that I had sheered the pin that the cam gear sits on and that i had smacked a piston with a valve. I've heard that our cars are famous for warping valves when the timing is off butall this just from my timing being off. they said they would have to take the head to a machine shop and have the valves regrinded and reseated and all that stuff. Anyone ever had this problem? How likely is this to have happened to my car? Please help because personally I think the shop is just blowing smoke up my $@# if you know what I mean. Sorry so long.

well if your valves really hit yur piston i think you woupd have heard it and if one hit then they all hit. and theres no way you can regring them to perfection again after that. i think they are jes bullshitting you imho. take it home and check things out. like spark, fuel, comp, timing. all those things can cause a no start. my advice is dont do anything to it until you are SURE whats wrong. good luck

You can't necessarily hear your valves getting belt. I bent my exhaust valves and I couldn't hear any especially loud noise or anything. Since our engines are zero clearance (interference type) designs, if the timing belt breaks or skips too much, then the valves will get bent for sure.
