Alright, I have a 98 GS and I'm not going turbo, but I'm going to do CAI/bored TB/UDP/port&polish intake mani/exhaust

Now, strictly on performance gains, which would be better: A full cat back (what brand/size) or would the GS-T muffler provide better performance with keeping more low end torque?

catback def. dont waste your money on a muffler if your going the cheap route go with a pacesetter it sounds good and its cheap and alot of noticable HP gain, if you want a better sounding muffler/ louder go with Apexi N1 catback or Greddy catback, they both sound AWESOME but are alot of cash...

if you arent going turbo, a catback will cause you to lose some low end power, but you will gain some in the higher RPMS. a muffler alone will help you out with flow. i wouldnt buy the catback, but thats me

You shouldn't lose any low end with a 2.5" cat back. I noticed a small gain in power throughout. Definitely get mandrel-bent pipes.

I didnt notice any low end loss with my Greddy, and he was right above. It sounds friggin awesome in my book.

So what would be the best solution for someone who WAS going the turbo route?

What brand should I get. The pacesetter has a nice price, but what about performance? I also like the Greddy SP, A'PEXi World sport. Which cat back would give the greatest performance?

Also, I do not want a huge can of a muffler.

Personally I love the sound of my Apex'i N1, but it's up to you. I would either get the greddy evo or the apex'i N1, but as stated above they're more expensive than the pacesetter but well worth it in my opinion. Just get whatever you can afford and like and you won't go wrong.

I would say go with the cat-back. I recently purchased an HKS sport cat back exhaust and It has done nothing but wonders for my car. I have noticed power throughout the whole powerband, but if you want to do your car right, IMO. Iwould go for The catback and go for a good quality if your gonna fork over that much money for an exhaust anyways just save up a little more and buy a good reliable brand that had r&d. How about a GS-T/GSX muffler on custom bent 2.5 or 3" piping? I hear the flow on that muffler is pretty damn good and it isn't going to put out that ear splitting zipper noise that you hear so often with aftermarkets. Does anyone know what kind of performance you would get from that and if it would be adequate for a turbo 420a?

I would much rather a quiet exhaust with good flow characteristics. I used to be a V8 guy, the 4 cylinder sound doesn't agree with me.

Definitely go with the Cat-Back. I put my exhaust on my car the same time I put these 25lb 17's on and still felt a slight increase in power. That says a lot. I went with the pacesetter catback piping and an OBX B5 muffler. The combo sounds good as hell and is deeper than both the apexi N1 and the pacesetter
