I had this same problem on my wife's explorer yesterday. Could it possible be either windshield fluid(doubtful, since the reservoir is on the other side of engine bay), or condensation from the ac? If you have ac. Other that that i'm stumped. Let me know what you find out.

I wouldn't exactly say that brake fluid is clear. An easy way to tell is to feel it with your fingers. You should be able to tell if it is a vehicle fluid or water from the a/c.
