I need to get the tensioner for the timing belt. It is a cylinder looking thing with 2 holes on the side to mount it. It holds the pressure on the timing belt. Has anyone every replaced it? Do we need to replace it when doing the timing belt? How much is it?

it is not necessary to replace it when doing the tbelt, unless there is a need for it. but since you are doing the tbelt, it might be a good idea to take care of it since you are doing the work already. i was talking to satan about prices since my 120k is coming up.. they cost like 45bux from satan!! fuckers always trying to rip people off.. not sure how much you can get them for elsewhere, but i would definitely try

^^what once was^^

^^what is now.. and permanently^^

I took the cheap way out, and did not replace it. I did my 60k service at 45k when my idler pulley grenaded. I pulled my tensioner out and gave it the once over and said f@ck it... put that sucker back in.

When I spun a rod at 47K, Satan replaced the bottom end under warrantee. They also did the timing belt, but neglected to replace the tensioner and water pump. Both of these had failed by 61,000 when I had to re-do my timing belt. Fuxors didn't even go in on the cost with me. That is the last time that my car saw the service department of a dealership.

I did not replace mine when i did my t-belt. I asked Satan about this, and they said that they very rarely get a bad one come in. I would say to replace it if it has over 100k on it, otherwise it should be ok. If in doubt, replace it, its not that much..

I had to replace mine when my tensioner bracket broke, and it was like $90 from a place online I found. Mitsubishi and Dodge want like $130 for that dinky ass little tensioner.

Well I bought one today and got a great deal like always. One of the Orlando Mitsu dealers wanted $132 for it and I laughed at them. I asked for the part number and then I called FT Myers mitsubishi. They alway hook me up. I got it from them for $88. So I saved about $50. Should be here next week just in time for the engine to go back in the car!
