It's time to change the oil in my car and I had a question since my dad said something that sounds ridiculous to me.
Can you switch straight from regular to synthetic? I wanted to stop using the Castrol GTX regular and go to Mobil 1. Can you do it all at once, gradually, or not at all? Thanks

How can I tell if I have regular or synthetic. ive only gotten the car's oil changed once, and that was at a firestone, so I dont know what they used. Is 66k miles to high to put synthetic in?

And most places will definately tell you if they used synthetic oil. If they didn't say anything about it, they didn't use it. The only downside to switching to synthetic on high mileage cars, is because synthetic oil will penetrate into EVERYTHING, (which is good) but you will get seeping valve cover gaskets. My buddy has a 92 MR2 NA, and switched to synthetic at 135,000 miles, with no drawbacks. No leaks either.
