Ok.. I replaced my clutch last month but today something got f'up again in my tranny..I was driving..went to get gas and stoped at a light...put it in 1st and try to go on green but my car stalled like i never drove a stick b4. I was like WTF?...started her back up everything was normal get to my friends house and get outta the car and hear a grinding noise from the trany on neutral..press the clutch and it goes away...and its just getting louder and louder in neutral..so i drive home and 2 mile later my tranny is dead..I think it stuck in 5th or something...i put it in neutral and slowly let go of clutch, the car moves and stalls..if i put it into any gear does the same thing. can it be the throw out bearing that started the noise it neutral??cause i didnt replace it....and since i drove it did it just toattly go bad or did something else break inside the tranny..any help appreciated..also how can i make my tranny stronger..any aftermarket stuff out there for our trannies?

On the drive side of the tranny there is an access panel, unbolt it (
1/2'') and there are 2 bearings, in one of them is a twirly thing, take a pair of needlenose and gently tug it out, remember which way it goes for reinstall, see if it is clean or if it has metal chunks, sludge on it cause it is magnetized... Its a oil pump for the intake shaft.... clean it and reinstall... then take the case apart, and look at the trash magnet and around in the corners of the tranny for any metal shavings, if you have any/much then your in a little trouble, hehe.... Also, look at the oil that came out of the tranny, if its black like used motor oil then its bad and burnt up. What clutch did this happen with? I just installed a cm stg 4 and a quaife LSD, and within 800 miles mine did the same thing... in neutral it started makeing noise and got louder as the day went on, as well as it would jerk forward a little in neutral... I have my tranny at the shop now and it wont be looked at till the end of the week.... I figure its all in the tranny, cause that clutch is not known for having problems, plus my tranny was full of metallic deposits and the trash magnet which was cleaned out 3 weeks prior was covered in fine metallic flake... keep us posted and i will let you know what happened to mine when i find out.

I took the end piece off yesterday the oil drain it did look kinda used even tho i changed it 1 month ago...and there were fine metal shavings in it i noticed..even between my fingers i can feel them in the oil...the guy at the shop is going to take the tranny apart today...i don't care whats broken i can replace but i would like aftermarket/performance parts for it if possible so it don't happen again..i searched the net for rebuild kits but not much out there...looked at one site and it said that the tranny is a f5m33 or something in our cars but on info&specs on 2gnt page it says f5cm1 tranny. The clutch i replaced last month also..it had a SACHS in there before..i would have bought aftermarket/performance but i need my car so i went to satan and got OEM clutch.

So does anyone have a vendor/site that sell's performance rebuild kits for our tranny..and is this true for our cars since they have same tranny as neon??? """"but many of the high power Neon folks are replacing the standard tranny with a 2nd gen RT/ACR/PT Cruiser 5 speed becuase it has a higher torque rating. (Actually if it you could use any 2k1 and up Neon tranny to get the higher torque rating, the RT/ACR just has a 3.94 final drive compared to the 3.55 of base models)""""

Well, has your transmission been looked at by the shop yet? Mine is still sitting in the same place I sat it in the shop 2 weeks ago, eh... but oh well, i am in no huge rush to throw it back in... If the tranny is ok and you just wanted to keep it and do some upgrades to it, just put a Quaife LSD in it and CM STG 4 modular clutch, and if you have any money left over, get some stage 2 or 3(if you want to loose ABS) axles.

Hello there, First time posting. I'm in Atlanta GA and have a 96 GS with 78k. The other week My slave cylinder went out and i forced my way into third (not thinking with my head). I know i ruined my transmission, prolly syncros in 3rd gear cuz everytime i shift into 3rd it makes a loud grind noise for a second. Therefore i've been skipping 3rd and going straight to 4th. Anywho, any1 know of a good place to get a tranny? General Discussion welcome.
Walt

my car didnt come with abs and yes i got the tranny apart with my mechanic today and from what i can see/feel everything is very very loose..from splitting it in center i already noticed plastic pices every where...dont know from what but thats it so far as i had to leave to work..hopefully tomarrow he will have it in pieces and will know whats up..i dont want to be driving my saturn any longer even tho its so f**kin light it feels like its faster than my eclipse. called tho junkyard tho in case to see how much tranny would be they said 650$ but i called back and asked for a neon tranny witch should be the same...correct me if im wrong...and they said 300$.

Well, upon closer inspection, what did the mechanic find out? My tranny guy is a lazy fukker that insists on doing all the cars that came in before me first.... damn rule followers! hehe, but i THINK the neon trannys SHOULD be ok, but I would definately look at one first, i know most of the internal parts are the same, but dont know if the case is the same.
